Description Amy put on her armour.Β  She started to worry about wearing such armour.Β  It is too heavy and bulky for her body and it really doesn't provide more protection she needs

It's not in how much armor you are wearing, it's in how you use it. After all if somebody runs you over with a horse (or even worse, an elephant) the armor will still leave you flat as a pancake.

In other words, move fast so you don't get hit.

That one is too heavy.Β  I tried few poses, I gave up!Β  No way the character can move with that

Well that is the fun thing with fantasy, you can use magic to make a character strong, or use magic to make the armor lighter. Or even both.

I play Dungeons and Dragons 4E with friends. They argue that my character's armor doesn't cover enough. I argue that we are playing a fantasy game with MAGIC. How much does her MAGIC armor need to cover for the MAGIC to work?

Most of the female characters in games have very "light" armours.Β  Even armour similar to Princess Leia's slave costume can be strong!

Yeah I've noticed that most female MMO characters and a fair number of computer/console female characters subscribe to the bikini-armor aesthetic while the guys usually get "realistic" armor that has so many heavy addon-parts that nobody could move in it. The girls wear armor that weigh less than their swords, while the guys wear armor that weighs twice what they do.

Thank you. Actually I just found it seconds ago because somebody linked me to an item from: www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/ve… Β  and I spotted the costume in their list as well since it seems he (Muwawya) collabs with them. Funny how those things work out sometimes huh?

The biggest problem with finding good anime manga stuff any more is just how much was made for Aiko 3. So vendors are afraid of getting hit with copyright infringement if they make anything similar for the later figures. Why I am trying to learn the modeling end so I can put together stuff that actually fits without breaking down several different outfits.Β  And your welcome.Β

WickedPrince In reply to Noshoba [2018-07-12 23:58:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah my interest isn't so much in duplicating any one design but finding pieces I can use to kitbash my own designs. I've found that if you try to do your own interpretation of a character there will always be some nit-picker who will go on a vent because you didn't do it right. I'm more looking for inspiration than simply a direct copy. For instance I'm curious about how adaptable those armored hip pieces are. How well they'd go with a completely different fantasy costume.

I spent close to twelve years seeking out the odd Aiko3 costumes, some were pretty good, others were less so. There are some pieces that I still make use of sometimes, like the shoulder and hip armor from Shukky's Plate Armor for Aiko3 - because they are versatile enough to still be usable even on the newer characters with just a little tweaking.

Actually I haven't been trying for the cosplay look but for the traditional and that is what has been tough to find/build. It is also not helping that some of the older artist that made those outfits are now dying off.Β  So the stuff is becoming even more un-findable.Β Β

Yeah a lot of the friends I've made here at DA have passed on or given up on 3D stuff or just disappeared, so I know how that feels.

I have a kind of weird aesthetic, more in line with the anime-minimalist style armors that don't cover a lot. But then if you look at the Horde from WOW none of them wear full-plate armor either and they don't seem to suffer. Like I told Amyaimei: sometimes it's not in how much armor you are wearing, but in knowing how to use it to best effect. IE: use your armor like you use a shield and just stay mobile.

I like being able to see the character, not just their big bulky armor. And as a fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs and his various Hot House worlds where people wear minimal clothing because of the heat I've come to appreciate that aesthetic. I also have a strong bondage/kink aesthetic. Seeing costumes that mix those genres is kind of my thing.

But yeah, finding good "traditional" looking armors that look fairly realistic - and are easy to work with - isn't easy. Even the stuff created by "expert/pro modelers" is often questionable. I picked up a male samurai armor recently and discovered that the hard parts of the armor moved with the character, but the belts that held them in place did not.

That's cool IMHO. Everybody is entitled to have their own opinions and aesthetic and art style. I'm pretty eclectic in what I like in art - honestly if it has good lines and pretty colors it's easy to draw me in. I do admit that I have limits on what I find worth looking at, but I am not going to deride somebody for doing that style of art or deride the art itself, at least not MOST of the time. I can be opinionated and not always willing to keep those opinions to myself. Especially when something is putting me in a bad mood. This happens, and when I realize I've done it I try to apologize. I very very rarely mean anybody any harm, but I'm a human being and I make my share of mistakes.

Anyways back on subject. I don't mind seeing new takes on old ideas, for instance inventing new styles of armor, or reinventing a variant of an old style.

I recently decided to combine some of my interests by inventing my own Hot House fantasy world where I could cobble together armor sets to fit my own aesthetics and interests. But I guess I may have mentioned that. I'm always looking for new pieces to combine with others to create something new.

You might want to go look at xurge3d. -chuckles- Although I am not into the armored bikini look , it doesn't mean I don't have them in my runtime. Just like recently having to buy swimsuits because of Daz's strict nudity rules. Along with making textures for a good friend of mine who does Macross style models, I am mostly into character design. This is also not my only gallery just my public one. I don't put my full anthromorphic art here. And I have also started to do some modeling to make up for what I can't find.

Yeah they are a site I check out along with 'rosity and 'rotica. I started working with G2f a few months back and picked up most of the costume and skin converters.

Most of what I do is create characters either for story-ideas or for RPGs I wish somebody would run that I trusted.

Right now I'm running a Star Wars RPG using the old WOTC SAGA Edition. I think I was crazy for deciding to run it because I'm not that good at SF stories. Basic plots I can do fine, but filling in the details gets harder the more you have to worry about weird tech you don't understand. My REAL RPG love is Swords and Sorcery/Fantasy. Yeah you have to worry about magic but then most of the spells are pretty well described and detailed.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Dungeons and Dragons game but they've done a variety of settings including their own Dying Earth style world called Dark Sun. My one real problem with that setting is that they blamed everything on the over-use of magic - which takes all the fun out of running a FANTASY game. So I came up with an alternative concept that starts with a traditional D&D world and converts it into a Hot House world after a Cthuluesque Elder God decided to interfere by causing a Mass Extinction Event with an asteroid. The local gods managed to prevent total extermination of local life but the asteroid strike caused the planets rotation to shift slightly closer to the sun causing all sorts of problems that the locals are still struggling with. Heavy armor like Full Plate has been replaced with lighter armors plus Martial Arts techniques to make the best use of the armor worn.

A few DA artists put work into the concepts of regional variations of standard races for races other than humans. I really like that idea so I want to borrow it. This piece for instance is very inspirational to me:

Β Β  I'd like to RP in a setting like that.

-chuckles- I was playing D&D back when it was not called D&D .Β  Might want to look into Rifts. It has a better magic system and also had a better setting for sci-fi that would let you explain the weird science. I have boxes of rpgs in storage but for the few that I keep for art reference.Β  I was also a big Tabletop wargamer so painted minis in storage as well. I am an old gamerΒ  only stopped because I am in a place that lacks for players.Β  I also got more into the artwork now than playing.Β  And although I liked the first 3 Star Wars I am not a Star Wars fan.Β  The fourth one made me puke and has gone downhill ever since.Β Β

I started playing D&D when the first hardcovers of 1st Ed came out, I have first printings of nearly all the 1st Ed stuff stashed away. And yes, I keep all of my old games because you never know when a person, place or thing from an old game supplement will inspire something for the game I am currently running even if they are completely different settings and games.

RIFTS had too much rule minutia IMHO. I played GURPS for a few years but the tendency to minimalize the potential of characters unless you were running an absurd character point total made me frustrated after a while. That and the fact that they'd change some obscure rule nobody really used every couple of supplements. I eventually decided I liked BESM for the customizability with minimal rules minutia - too bad the system is now orphaned. But my problem has less to do with understanding rules and more to do with an inability to cognate the setting details regarding technology and how it affects things. I just recently started playing Shadowrun 5E and that system is insanely complicated, and I don't understand half the technology. For instance I would never play a Decker because I would never have half a clue what I should be doing. I'm going to note that I built the components of home security systems for ten years so I have a basic idea of what sorts of building security stuff SHOULD exist in SR5, but I don't know what DOES exist because of the altered history. They've altered pieces of Earth history going back to the 1970s or so for the sole reason of changing who became president to some nobody I've never heard of, so I'm not sure what sorts of real world devices I KNOW exist in our reality do or don't in the SR5 reality. This means I don't have the foggiest clue on how to infiltrate anyplace or what a Decker should be watching out for. It's stuff like that, where the tech is confounding to me that I have trouble with. Which is why I prefer a straightforward Fantasy game - that and my obsession with things like the myth of King Arthur along with stories like John Carter of Mars.

My main interest in Star Wars is that it's Science Fantasy instead of "Speculative Fiction" or what-ever jargon they are using today. Star Trek was no less Science Fantasy than Star Wars: for instance modern science recognizes "Psychic Powers" as a synonym for "Magic" as neither one really can be proven to exist, and Star Trek was rife with Psychic crap through every series starting with the Vulcan Mind Meld. Star Wars is fantasy with space ships and blasters to go alongside the Jedi (IE: Sword Mages). The problem is that figuring out ideas for "adventures" is a bit more difficult with an SF setting where the options on how to deal with problems can reach absurd levels. Got a problem with bandit raiders? Fly your ship over their headquarters/camp and level the place with your shipboard weapons. Problem solved. But not a very satisfying resolution of you are the GM who put effort into setting the adventure up. Then you have to compensate for the OP answer to the problem by saying that when they obliterated the enemy with their ship-to-ship weapons they also obliterated all of the loot they might have gotten.

As a for instance on high-tech things that can throw hard complexity at situations my players instead of using their ship weapons on the enemy set up an ambush including a few carefully placed mines and a couple light defense turrets. They also had a pair of stolen heavy war droids they managed to steal from the bandits during a nighttime raid. And a town sheriff and militia armed with blaster pistols. One of the party members proceeded to totally screw up the ambush by starting out taking pot-shots at the bandits at ranges where she needed extreme luck to hit and the bandits who had long-range weapons and numbers hunkered down and traded long-range shots, at five times the range of the blaster pistols everybody else was using. Which meant the town guard could do nothing except make targets of themselves while running through the minefield to get to the bandits. Had she not triggered the fight at extreme rifle range things would have been much easier, but she decided she was an expert sniper even though she wasn't and negated all of their advantages. When the party started getting the crap kicked out of them they complained that the sheriff and militia weren't doing anything - because they COULDN'T.

Sorry if I'm blathering. I'm bored, got too much time on my hands ATM, and a blithering idiot thanks to a reoccurring fever that keeps coming back every time the weather heats up.

No worries I am in the middle of working out a character sheet for my white hair kitsune caharacter Kasumi for a commission I am having done. Right now the lighting is proving to be annoying. Casting to much shadow so losing facial definition.Β  Β Need to build a character preset for a male companion but that still needs a little more work.Β  Doing human and fox eared form plus making the textures can give serious eye strain.Β

WickedPrince In reply to Noshoba [2018-07-14 18:21:48 +0000 UTC]

I just started to learn iRay lighting, it can be really troublesome to get enough light into a scene, especially when they grossly under-power any additional spots you put into the scene to get a bit more light. I figured out that most of the light sets are around 1000 times brighter than the default settings for new spots. That's crazy. The other thing iRay does is it doesn't let you turn off "cast shadows" on anything. So if you have a distant light and are inside a building the building will be throwing shadows all over your scene. So you have to be very careful what sorts of lights you are using and where they are placed - and how strong you make any supplemental lights you add. In some ways it's a lot more work, but the lighting effects can totally make it worth it.
