My series of artwork "7 Deadly Demons" - this is the fifth. Demon of SLOTH-BELPHEGOR.
Belphegor (Velfegor, Belfagor, Vaalfegor, Baal-peor) - a powerful demon. Belfegor is one of the Princes of Hell, though is not the highest position in the hierarchy, but also to an increase in not seeking, preferring the role of the "gray cardinal". In occultism Belphegor (or Baal-peor) - Six out of ten Arhidemon (evil elementals), the "genius of discoveries and inventions", he is well versed in technology issues and technical progress - a master of armor and weapons.
His devilish role was to sow discord between the people and tempt them to evil, because the distribution of wealth. He seduces the people by offering them a clever invention that will make them rich, it was felt that Belphegor seduces with laziness.
He is portrayed in different ways - sometimes as monstrous, bearded demon with a hammer in his hands, with long sharp horns, with his tongue hanging out and with a huge trunk, symbolizing his priapian phallus.Often, however, Belphegor can take image of the young naked woman of incredible beauty, so sometimes it is considered a female demoness. Modern magicians say that now he is like an ancient old man in a wheelchair.
According to legend, Belphegor was sent from Hell by Lucifer to find out whether there is such a thing on earth as a happy marriage and to sow hatred and destruction of marriages.
According to some demonologists XVI-century, his power is stronger than in April.
