Abbreviated as rhino, is a group of five extant species of odd-toed ungulates in the family Rhinocerotidae. Two of these species are native to Africa and three to Southern Asia.

Members of the rhinoceros family are characterized by their large size (they are some of the largest remaining megafauna, with all of the species able to reach one tonne or more in weight); as well as by an herbivorous diet; a thick protective skin, 1.5–5 cm thick, formed from layers of collagen positioned in a lattice structure; relatively small brains for mammals this size (400–600 g); and a large horn.

Rhinoceros are killed by humans for their horns, which are bought and sold on the black market, and which are used by some cultures for ornamental or traditional medicinal purposes. East Asia, specifically Vietnam, is the largest market for rhino horns. Rhino horns cost as much as gold on the black market. People grind up the horns and then consume them believing the dust has therapeutic properties. The horns are made of keratin, the same type of protein that makes up hair and fingernails. Both African species and the Sumatran rhinoceros have two horns, while the Indian and Javan rhinoceros have a single horn.

The IUCN Red List identifies three of the species as critically endangered.

This is a fantastic piece of artwork! No doubt about it at all!

The details are mind boggling as also the realism.

Love the expression of the rhino as well. You did an extremely outstanding job of showing the wonderful calm emotions in the rhinos eye and face.

The only thing is that seems very little little bit bizarre to me is the amount of darkness in it (the background is jet black!) ! I assume the reference photo was taken in the night under a spot light so only the rhino is visible and rest all is pitch dark.

In all 10/10 .

This is an excellent piece! You have a very strong visual perception of depth and texture. Your works show that you have mastery of media and your able to use it to your advantage. What I enjoy about this piece especially is that it is a very objective drawing. Your are simply drawing what you see. Texture and value coexist together to bring the form to life off the page. The drawing presents a photorealism that is stunning. There are no harsh outlines that make it look illustrative and it overall has a very nice gestalt to unify the piece.

Wow... Juts wow. This is a amazing piece! I also thought it was a photo!
I love the way the shadow hits the Rhino it gives a brilliant effect. He is very noticeable against the dark background. The wrinkles and texture in his skin add real detail to this picture. Having seen Rhinos before, the texture of his skin is spot on. He also has a lovely expression. The skin looks really rough (which is perfect) and i also love his eye. Its got lots of expression behind it. Even the way he is looking adds expression. I always think the eyes add great emphasis to a drawing/painting, and this has worked perfectly. Well done e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="390" title=" (Smile)"/>

I appreciate very much your point of view . I agree, I also loved to craft the texture of the Rhino's skin, while I was doing it, seemed as if all the wrinkles pointed, rounded or directed towards the eye and I loved that feeling that linked the cranium structure.

Holy crap! When I first saw this, I thought that this was a photo. This is an incredible piece; it shows amazing depth and detail. The shading techniques used in this are absolutely phenomenal. The area behind the ear and the face gives it such a three-dimensional look, and the eye gives off the reflection of a living creature. The details around the horn also add to the three-dimensional look. This is an amazing use of traditional art. The pure black add to the shading and, again, the three-dimensional look. The blackness in the ear is a little confusing though, as it kind of blends in with the black shadow behind the ear. But that is the only thing, and it doesn't even need to be fixed anyway; the shading and details make up for any mistakes (although I see no real mistakes).

Cierto!
