Alot aspects of this image are appealing. For an audience expecting a surreal environment from the title, they arrive with their expectations satisfied. With clouds at above and below the land, it appears like a floating world. Such doesn't exist in reality, so it'd seem to only make sense as a dream.
But then again, my mind refuses to accept it right away. When I think of floating world, I start thinking about ukiyo-e prints from Japan. The black and yellow reminds me even more of a style that originated there (I can't remember the name off the top of my head). Because of these associations, my mind attempts put this world somewhere-to try and make it make sense. It resists.
I hope that your audience doesn't have the same experience as I do. The believability of the dream will depend on what they have had in their own dreams, and what they have experienced/know of reality.
What I also like about the image is the composition. I'm personally not a believer in the rule of thirds as a solve-all technique, but it works with this image here. The ground's spot is at the lowest third. This leaves the sky above to convey openness and wonder because it takes it up so much room. Nice work.

Wow! Thank you so much for the critique! I'm glad that you enjoyed this piece, it was very fun to frame it =] I'm very thankful that you took it to another level and gave me some insight as to how it actually made you FEEL, not just what appealed to youβtoo many people ignore their emotions. I hope that this piece struck you with wonder and encouraged thought, as that is my goal with my photographs and with my photography.
Thank you again, and may your days be joyful and your mind be sharp.

You're welcome. : )
There are many schools of thought for critiqueing art. I try to blend two of them (emotions+principles/elements), even though some say that's not a good idea. Regardless, I do what I can and I'm glad you appreciated it. And yes, I did feel that sense of wonder with this image.
Thanks for the wishes. It's rather kind.
