Description A drawing done as a birthday gift for a friend a while back. I feel it's a bit rushed, especially the composition -- though there are things I like about the object placement in it, it still feels like it could have been better done. Still, I'm reasonably happy with it.

Original is 6x3", executed with Koh-i-noor Rapidographs (mostly with the 0.18, with larger sizes used for the blacks) on 100lb Bristol.

Whoa. Really reminds me of the locomotive from the game Dark Cloud 2.

This is incredible, you are quite the master! Great comp of it coming out of the tunnel, and the bridge has fantastic texture.

Nice linework. I like how you darkened the texture of the smoke and the bridge under the shadow.

The beard on the dragon is just neat. Have you ever heard of the Iron Dragon board game?

Thanks! Yeah, I like the cowcatcher/beard too.

Can't say I've heard of that board game. I'm always interested in discovering good board games, though.

Oh, wonderful ... original idea ...

It reminds me of the famous Rai Bradbury`s tale.

Hmm... I've read some Bradbury but not a huge amount. Which tale does it remind you of?

That one about a couple of medieval knights waiting for a dragon in the night ... but what they call a dragon is really a train ...

Some years ago, in another gallery one guy wrote a comment about a drawing i did (which depicted a big dragon breathing smoke, all done with rapidographs and ballpen) saying "it reminds me of a locomotive" ... then i though "it would be a nice idea to draw a dragon-like locomotive or a clockworck steam-powered dragon" but i never drew it (and i will most probably never do it) ... so we may say you read my mind... he, he, congratulations!!!

Hm, that strikes a vague memory -- perhaps I read it a really long time ago. I read loads of science fiction and fantasy back in high school (a book every few days or less) and it all kind of blurs as I get older.

I suspect the inspiration for this one might have been a Jacek Yerka painting -- he has one of a locomotive emerging from a dragon shape tunnel. I don't know if the two are connected at all, but you never know.

This dragon train remembers me one of Gigher's pictures, that with the alien melten on some large kinda of train too, is good to see some interesting variation about the topic, personally I found trains more like VERY large worms. Maybe this is like one of those "collective dreams" or something...

However what I like most of this picture is the ink technique, is good to see something like this on the net. I liked particulary the ink pattern on the steamΒΏ? of the train thing and the one you used on the bridge (I use that one when inking with rapidograph).

The strokes alternating between four different directions? That's my favourite pattern to use with cut stone; especially since it's mathematically proven that any given division of a surface into separate regions can be coloured with only four colours such that no colour touches a region of the same colour.

You know, I never actively thought of a train like a worm but it's a perfect image, what with the segmentation and the way they curve through the landscape (and burrowing through tunnels and such ). I've thought of them as snakes before, but I like worms even better.

Yeah, those strokes. Interesting fact by the way (the mathematical one).

It's been a year and a half since I did this one, so I'm not sure how long it took, but probably a full day or so. At least 8-10 hours of work, I'd say, maybe a little more.
