Description
In Greek mythology, Hades, the god of the underworld, was a son of the Titans Kronos and Rhea. He had three sisters, Demeter, Hestia and Hera, as well as two brothers, Zeus and Poseidon. Together they were the six original Olympic gods.
The Cyclopes forged a helmet that had the virtue to make invisible to who took it.
In Hades the souls of the dead reside, the deceased entered the underworld across the Acheron river, carried by Charon, who charged for the passage an oblong, a small coin that they put in the mouth of his deceased relatives. The poor and those who had no friends or family met for a hundred years on the nearby shore. The Greeks offered propitiatory libations to prevent the deceased from returning to the world to "persecute" those who had not been given a proper funeral. The other side of the river was guarded by Cerberus, the three-headed dog defeated and tamed for himself by Heracles. Beyond Cerberus, the shadows of the deceased entered the land of the dead to be judged.
