Description The purple flower balls of Persian Onion, hold on 3 ft. / 90 cm high stems, always give a great display in the evening. Those tall brothers of the common onion, such as Allium aflatuense 'Purple Sensation' and related bulbous species, are quite long-lived plants here in Germany, in spite of their origin from Central Asia and Iran. They like a quite moist and fertile soil in winter and spring, and somewhat drier conditions in summer and fall. Their leaves need sun but already use to wither when the plants are in bloom, so it is advantageous to grow them between other perennials that cover them from late spring on.

Das sieht wirklich fantastisch aus! Das warme Abendlicht lässt die Farbe besonders leuchten.

Oh dear!
I assume the soil in your garden is not suitable for them. I know that it is really hard work but maybe it could help if you dig holes for the bulbs that have a depth four times of the bulb size and a width of twice their size. Then fill half of every hole with a mixture of 3 parts coarse sand, 1 part of your soil, and a handful of bulb starter , then put the bulb in and close the hole with a mixture 2:1 of sand and your soil. I have made very good experiences with the bulb starter so I regularly order it from the UK.

Thank you very much for your and comment!

Unfortunately, I'm a VERY lazy gardener. I hate digging and planting (because the soil is so hard). I probably didn't plant them deep enough. Oh well. My own fault. But thanks for the advice.
