Description This is a historic moment, guys. The first time I've ever been pleased with one of my own drawings of Timpani and Blumiere. Oh, you better believe I've tried. But when a couple really matters to me, I'm terribly self-conscious about drawing them.

Now you get to see my Blumiere, who looks much like Bleck as we know him, except... he has hair, which is in consequence of him being younger, not his transformation. Of course, if this was in color, you could see he glows blue light as opposed to red-orange (hence his name, blue + lumière, which is French for light.), but we already knew that. The other big change is that he has a more normal mouth, as opposed to the epically spiky mouth. I always portray Bleck with this, not just because it's badass, but because I perceive it as being one of the key symbolic elements of his transformation. As he lost the desire ever to love again, he lost the ability to give a kiss.

I meant to make this look something like a Chinese or Japanese ink-brush painting, since the music that plays during Bleck's flashbacks is so... Eastern-sounding. And calm and melancholy and it fits so well, especially with this first scene. "I remember that day... the room was warm." Gah. Just hearing that music makes me get all emotional!

Said artistic style also fits well with the abstract, foggy, incomplete aspect of this being but a memory.

Timpani's bringing him some tea and pulling the covers back up, because he's messed them up in freaking out that he's in a human's house, a forbidden and foreign place. She's letting him know it will all be ok.

Β  I really love the sepia-toned ink brush look of the whole thing. It's still paper, but it conveys the idea that this is a memory.

Blumiere's face is epic. How you did it?

Hmm, there are a few brushes that I like to use in Photoshop. Otherwise I just drew it how I normally draw Bleck's face but without the spiky teeth and with hair (maybe he still has hair, you just can't see it under his hat...)

Well, Bleck DID say he looked FOR YEARS to find Timpini....*Sigh* Makes me wish I could find my true love. You know you found your soul mate when he goes to those kind of lenghts all for you.

Well, I'm very glad you did! Thank you!

...Also, your signature makes this post say "And I loved it. ...at night." Which makes me just a bit unsettled by what you've been doing with my picture.

Indeed, it made me very happy to finally succeed in drawing this couple; I am really proud of myself lately; experimentation has allowed me to capture scenes in ways that used to come across as boring (and therefore unacceptable to me) when I kept with a more standard lineart and coloring.

I'm trying to compare this with my very own inkbrushes, and the look is pretty much spot on, with a few chalky kind of smudges.

This is really adorable though.

I really think you should adapt to original fiction more. You might have the imagination for it, you know.

The potential, perhaps. The faith in myself... not yet, I'm afraid. Jacob is helping me with that, though. This summer he's going to listen to my ideas and we're going to try and work out a good story from them.

So are you two just brainstorming together, or will this be like a collaborative story?

Either way, I think it will be awesome.

Altermentality In reply to AleidyaT [2010-05-07 02:45:37 +0000 UTC]

Not sure yet. I have ideas, but I've never developed them because every time I try, I can never get far in my writing, nor can I get far in developing the broader outlines of characters and plotlines because I feel it's all been done before, or it's not new or interesting enough, etc. "Who would want to read this?" I ask myself, and the answer is always "No one. ...Well maybe your friends because they're nice. Otherwise no one." Basically I just beat myself up, mentally, every time I try to do something original and sustained.

But Jacob gives me faith in myself and I know he will listen to me, and together we can craft something good, I hope.

I just started to play this game before I decided to give up video games and computer for a month (except deviantART of course )

The way you drew Blumiere is so cute, I'm sorta getting a crush on him!

Very nice once again. Hope to see more

Thank you! I've actually considered turning this into a series and doing all the flashbacks, but I can't commit to that yet. I have lots of other things to draw now that it's summer

Cool, well when the month is up, I'm sure you'll enjoy the rest of the game. The story just gets more and more intense as you go on.

...He's definitely easy to fall in love with

I'll admit I peeked ahead at the story (before I bought the game... I never thought I'd ever get to play it ) But I love the bits that I saw.

*sigh* it's going to be a loooong month

I applaud you, this is indeed one of the better illustrations I've seen of Blumiere's past as of yet. The prevalent brownish color fits well with the setting of a memory, while the idea being depicted concerning how these two first met really adds up well with the other elements you've carefully added in, creating an overall great piece.

This came out nice! He totally looks panicked! Their story reminded me hardcore of Greek stories, for some reason. But that's tangent-y.

I absolutely love the textures!

I guess because it's just so doomfully tragic? Very much Romeo and Juliet too (except it seems they had a gradual working-up to their beautiful love rather than it being damn near instant, which is what always bothered me about Romeo and Juliet)...

Thanks!

MMhhhm, in a kind of light whimsical way the stories start out, like Orpheus and Eurydice. And then all the sudden it gets serious!
