Description Wonderful old cookstove shot in an abandoned farmhouse in the RM of Great Bend , Saskatchewan ,Canada ...amazing it had not fallen through the floor into the basement as I had to tread very lightly to get the shot

The colours and textures are gorgeous!
I liked the black and white first, but this one is even nicer... Love it!

HDR is a great novelty & takes skill, but I believe that it can be overused & overdone. In this particular pic, its my opinion that you've done both. Instead of emphasizing the age and disrepair, this reminds me of those flashy metalic prints that were popular for a while & the HDR gives it a too industrialized feel.
I don't mean to sound harsh here, John & I hope you forgive my bluntness.

No problem point taken ....the things I usually shoot are very textural and I find HDR enhances these qualitys .. I wouldnt call it a novelty but a very useful piece of software , I appreciate your comments and opinion

I didn't know that HDR was available as a specific software. I was only aware of it as a technique. What's the name of the software that you are using?

Photomatix its free to try but the images come out with a watermark ...its a 100$ if you want the full version and its a stand alone program ...or a plug in for adobe photoshop (which I dont have) Check it out its fun to play with

Wow, it would be wonderful if you could get that out of there. It would make a beautiful piece when restored. Wonder what's in the basement?

Wow, what a treasure. After photographing it, I'd be trying to figure out a way to get it into my Sportage and take it home. I love old things like this. Good thing you didn't end up falling through the floor - although that would make for a very interesting series, I'm sure...

What a gorgeous stove. Can't help but snicker that there's still a can on it.
Maybe the stove stood just so that you could come and photograph it...

This is cool. Just how many of these places are there up in your area?

Having to travel a little furthur all the time to find more , but there are quite a few within a 30 mile radius of my farm, most of these places were built by Ukrainian settlers between 1890 - 1910 as a quarter section of land was available for 10 $ at that time ..Thanks for your comment and interest
