Description Oakley is a town from my PnP game set in the Fallout universe, located somewhere in the wasteland around the western part of the United States.
It only occupies a small portion of the actual town that was much larger than the occupied location today before the atomic war. Within the occupied area of the town it is relatively safe, there is a rule of law and armed guards do their patrolling routines.
Outside of the barricades however, all that stops and an urban wasteland begins, full of scoundrels, feral dogs, feral ghouls and alike...

this is awesome!Β which program did you use to make it?

Tnx a lot.
Oh, just Photoshop - no program for mapping can outdo it, not even close... Β
However - if you are wondering about the objects and textures of road, grass, rubble etc - those are all ripped from video games:

1. I ripped textures from a few games like L4D2, STALKER, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, etc and converted them to PNGs using some simple programs. (they are already made to repeat themselves so i don't need to do corrections when putting them together)

2. The Objects like cars, for instance, i ripped from Fallout New Vegas then imported them into a program called Poser and rendered them from a birds eye perspective and saved them as PNG.

Now i keep all those textures and objects/vehicle renders as a form of database on my PC and use it whenever i need it, i don't need to rip it all over again...

After doing all that - the rest is just placing it onto a white canvas and adding shadows, nothing else

Hi there. Love these maps you've posted.

Any chance I could get a copy of the textures and images you've ripped?

wow, it's really seems a lot of work. I was hoping to use your program for my fallout role play game but... now I don't know if I can do it.Β how many hours did it take to make this?

Nah man, its quite easy - do you know how to use Photoshop, at all? Cause if you do - then its a piece of cake and you don't have to be a Photoshop master either.
I can save you the trouble and share all the textures i ripped as well as the objects i rendered cause that would take a lot of time, but you will have it all ready to be used, want the links in a PM?

Don't suppose you'd be able to PM and share those textures again?

You've really done an amazing job! If you ever get the time, I look forward to seeing a walkthrough from you on how you ripped the textures and converted them to with simple programs such as Poser.

No problem, i will send you a note with all the links.

As for the texture and model ripping, well - its not the same for all the games, you know...

Every game has its own archive format (though some games use same formats if they use the same engine to run it, for instance - you rip Half Life 2 and L4D2 textures the same way cause both games run on Source engine, right..).
With that being said - you have to find a way to rip each game individually. That's usually done by googling about it, for instance: "left 4 dead 2 texture extractor" or stuff like that...

Same thing goes for model ripping - every game has its native 3d model format and you need different programs for most games individually who will convert the native format of the game into a neutral format like .obj or something that poser can actually import...

Now that i look at it - its actually not that easy, its just that i have gotten used to doing it that i know already the patterns on how to search and dig out the necessary software...
Sometimes - it can be a real headache, though, and some games i haven't been able to rip, no matter what, sadly...

You can give me a shout if you are interested in any specific game, but i have most textures needed for basic map making, from epic fantasy to modern, to post apocalypse.
Same thing goes for models - i do have the most necessary stuff, so everything else i might rip - it would be something specific that i need....

LOOOOLLLLL. You remind me of this one surgeon I followed who was like, "[Surgery]'s a piece of cake. You just have to know Anatomy. You already took that first year, right? No problem then!"

Thank you so much again! I'm sure it took some serious time and effort to get these, so I really appreciate it!

You should totally just put the textures on dA or something; it's a valuable resource for RPers everywhere! Alternatively, it'd be amazing if you could create an "Altegore's Library" or something where ppl can continue to grab ripped resources after you've ripped them!

Don't think I have a specific game that needs to be ripped in mind. I'm starting up a Fallout PnP RPG myself, so it sounds like all I need, you already have!

Again, Thanks!

No problem...

Btw, a library of sorts would be cool, though i don't know how people would find it...
I did consider it and maybe i will do it at some point, my friend has done a similar things cause we ripped some stuff together, he's in the "business" as well...

Anyway, if you map something out, put it up on Deviant Art, would love to see what other people make cause im the only mapper in my gaming group...

I commented on another image of yours.

I AM A PHOTOSHOP GOD of the basics (= and would love to get a copy of your archive, if you're still sending it out.

I will definitely be using it to make maps etc and will share my tidbits as they happen. After reading your "method" post, I may actually make a few to add to the pot.

I don't know how to use photoshop but I know how to use gimp, it's not as professional as ps but it works.
yes please, that would be awesome.

Altegore In reply to Lazy-Turtle [2016-07-06 13:23:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah sure, GIMP is just fine...
When you open a new canvas - i suggest you make it 5000x5000 at least, i find those dimensions to be ideal for most maps in most cases...
I sent you a note, hope you got it

And wish I could get in on this game.

You mean to tell me you live in Oakley
Yeah, the game is good, sadly - one of our key players is away for awhile, we had to pause it...

No, not in Oakley, but the description sounds just like home back home.
