Description It's finally done! althought the background did not turn out as i have originally plan, the original ideal background i have in mind was Alphaleo splashing across the river(that is why i painted the 'wet fur' in the first place) after numerous unsuccesful attempt trying to get the water effect, i finally decided to keep things simple by just doing a simple background. I was really happy how the Alphaleo and the mountain bike turn out but for the background i give a 'OK, good enough' for it.

My next work will be Gundam seed destiny's 'Strike Freedom Gundam' or 'Kingdom Hearts' i'm working them for the up coming art book my group gonna print for 'comic feista' here is our group's site [link]

This is, I have to say, the most original cycling art I've found on here...
It's brilliant!
I don't have a clue when it comes to digital art, so I'm amazed at how you can do fur like that.
And the level of detail is just mindblowing!

Critique heavy? ..um.. How? There is no way I can give constructive anything, it's so perfect. I would if I could critique it to help you, but I started using the base of the tires to measure everything out, and sorry to say ' you have everything right, starting with the action physics to the dither from photo exposure and object focus.' Muscle groups in the tail are up like their supposed to be during a chase; the hat is off center, from the horizontal median along the forehead estimate 10 degrees his left and 5 pitch up, from the bounce of the ride; hands gripping; light source from 3d origin, is above the middle of the tail, top of frame, and all shadow casts are acurate.
Like I said, I can't find anything wrong with this piece! Bravo for your masterpiece!

Now...it is art like this which discourages me. lol. The only thing that I could even slightly point out is the placement of the tail. I always see it as an extention of the spine, and it looks up a little high, but that could also be due to the angle, which is most likely the case(I am trying to critque because of your setting). Other than that, the bike is simply mind blowing. Great job.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alphaleo14 In reply to injectedmisery [2005-12-15 13:35:35 +0000 UTC]

thanks for pointing that out, originally it was fine, but somehow too long and creates a lot of empty space on the BG, i did some scaling here and there and probably screwes up along the way unnoticed, but it's great someone saw the mistake

parrothead529 [2005-12-07 00:46:27 +0000 UTC]

This picture is fantastic. The blowing fur and flying mud really gives you a sense of adventure that can be really difficult to portray in a picture. Also the contrast helps to bring out the foreground and the whole thing is composed really nicely. Keep up the good work!

The attention to detail on this piece is phenomenal to say the least, I'm a mountain biker and to see so many intricate parts replicated in absolute perfect detail is incredible... Every part looks exactly like the real thing down to all the logo detail!

Congratulations

ya, i have to agrees with u, i'm trying my best to give u a scense of reality within the art, i personally never rode a dual suspension GT before, but painting this, gives me some satisfaction experincing something i can't touch.

SquishyFishy [2005-12-06 23:53:00 +0000 UTC]

That's absolutely awesome, but one question. Shouldn't the spokes be a bit more blurred if he's moving? Or are the fingers on the brakes indicating that he's braking hard so the wheels have stopped turning? I'm not at all as experianced as you, but I was just wondering. Awesome job too!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cogito-Ergo-Doleo In reply to SquishyFishy [2005-12-07 00:34:24 +0000 UTC]

People always have fingers covering the brakes, just incase

When you watch a mountain bike race, you tend to track with riders which reduces a lot of motion blurring, but more commonly when flash photography is used you get the spokes frozen in place as such... And a sharp subject with the motion blur in the background as you track. I'm guessing that's a result of referencing whilst producing this magnificent piece of airbrushing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SquishyFishy In reply to Cogito-Ergo-Doleo [2005-12-07 23:34:11 +0000 UTC]

That's understandable.

Ah, alright, I was just checking. I could sure as heck never do better than you, so blur or no blur, it's still an awesome piece. *claps*
