Another december 2017 illustration for “Edge of Darknes” card game.The fourth of this series, this is the one i like the less, they are supposed to be some sort of giant zombie hounds but they told me to mix between two different dog kinds that doesn’t fit as well as i would have liked resulting that my dogs looks a bit crappy, but what can i do, i’m a lamer artist.
How do you deal with it when you feel you are lack on any skill?
*EDIT - This image is receiving today a totally abnormal ammount of views and favourites, can anyone explain me why is this happening? where are you guys seeing this image? Where do you come from?

If I feel like I'm creating a product or image that I don't believe is up to expected standards, I'll ask around to some of my friends that I know will provide fair, constructive criticism or praise. I ask what might need to be improved, and what is good enough to release.

the imposter's syndrome hunts even the best of us
if you feel you lack some specific skill (identifying the problem) you can surely practice it
on the other hand, if you feel that something is wrong, you can ask others to point it out - maybe they find something or maybe everything is ok and you're overly pessimistic about your work

Some of us would LOVE to be able to paint as well as you do :-P Maybe you should take some time out to reset your self image. Go look at your artwork from five years ago and think about how far you've come over a short period of time. The rest of us will continue to sit here wishing we had half your talent

He is talented indeed, but if he feels that he is lacking and he cannot match his own expectations, is it not better for him to try to improve and look forward, instead of only looking back at his own progress?

You need to do both. If we constantly look at how far we have to go (based on our perceptions or goals), we lose track of how far we have already come and start to feel like we are not getting anywhere. You are absolutely correct, you need to be able to see what needs improving and work at it - that's how progress happens. But focusing exclusively on what you have not yet achieved often leads to feelings of inadequacy. Thus, to balance this out, you also need to be able to feel good about where you are, based on what you've done in the past and how you've -already- improved. It wasn't a suggestion to become complacent and stop trying to improve

My bad then, I understood your comment as an encouragement to only look back and to feel good exclusively because others still strive to achieve his accomplishments.
But you're right that it's still important to nurse mental health, so you don't feel a constant lack of self-worth

Don't be discouraged because I happen to think they're very cool! You think they're lame, but I see them as awesome. And if you wanna talk flaws...I totally understand. I'm not perfect, not even CLOSE! And I make more mistakes with one picture than you do with 20 or 30 and I can guarantee you that. And I completely understand how you feel when you say that you lack skill because I'm constantly dealing with the feeling. Nothing is ever good enough for my own self, but I've learned a couple things while pursuing art and one of those big things is that failing is good. Falling allows me to see what I did wrong and how to fix it and what I could do better for next time. And when it comes to lacking skill.....I believe it's all about persistence and devotion. If you think you're not good at something, just keep doing it...experiment, make a friggin mess; it's all part of the big learning curve. I've also learned that you've gotta go outside of your comfort zone, and not just once or twice, but many, many times over and over again. Eventually, (and this might sound cliche, so I apologize for that) what you make at a base level will be more detailed and accurate. And the more you go out of your comfort zone with your current abilities, the larger that comfort zone will become and the more diverse you'll become as well. I have faith in you, even if you do not have any faith in yourself. Just keep on trying and don't you EVER give up! ^-^
