Right; so, this summer I spent it on the spanish eastern coast and i had the opportunity to see the holiday of "Moros y Cristianos" which translates into "Moors and Christians", in valencian said as "Moros i Cristians".

This is a series of celebrations and festivities that take place in several towns (on the eastern coast of spain). These go on for several days and commemorate battles/combats/fights that took place between Moors (Muslims, kinda) and Christians during the period of "Reconquista" which was from the 8th to 15th century. gotta love wiki

You could say that these have a certain cultural appropriation, but from my experience they start pulling things out of the realism and draw into a fantasy like element instead.

As part of the holiday, you have plenty fireworks and gunpowder "battles" (it's mostly noise), sword fights, parades, theatrical pieces, correfocs ("fire-runs"; i will make something seperately about this), etc.

The outfits are really something though. Both in a good way and in a bad way, lol. The best ones are in Alcoy, and here they also have the best battles and so on.
