We have a similar place where I'm from. People surf (mostly bodyboarders) the backwash from the rocks towards the oncoming waves to get thrown into the air... The surf doesn't get as big as Steamer Lane but it can get pretty hectic at times if you miss time the swell...

This will suck you into the rocky hole where it gets pretty violent. You jump off the tip and surf on the other side (left) and avoid this spot
