Final Doctor Who art commission from Big Chief Studios ! Portrait of the (as of right now, still mysterious) War Doctor, played by the esteemed John Hurt. Part of my official Doctor Who poster series, but as you can see has quite a different, darker feel than the others; I was going for an intense, fiery battlefield sort of thing. The theme ended up tying in quite nicely with the mini-sode The Night of the Doctor.
Reference photos were provided by the BBC. They also chose this title "The Lonely God" out of a list I gave them (I was given no info on the special episode aside from the refs) so take from that what you will. :] We'll all find out what he's about in less than 24 hours anyway!!
Painted in Photoshop CS5 with a Wacom Cintiq tablet; some textures and fire stock from cgtextures . Thank you SO MUCH TO EVERYONE for your immense support on this series of mine. I was absolutely thrilled to get this opportunity, and after all my struggling, quite proud of the resulting set!! THANK YOU GUYS!!

Oh lord. This cannot possibly intentionally match up with Parting of the Ways, I assume, given when it was painted? I just coincidentally flipped from one to the other and everything; the colours, the composition, the Doctor, the message, the sparklies; it's all opposite and complementary and whoa.

The 8th doctor was forced into a regeneration so he could become a warrior to fight in the Last Great Time War.

No he still considered a doctor, its just we didn't know about him til day of the doctor so he still counts as a regenereation, so technically 11 should have been the last doctor( because the war doctor counts and 10 regenerated twice) but we all know how that went.

All of these pictures--in fact, all of your pictures, period--are absolutely beautiful. I admire and am in awe of your artwork. I tell you, if I had your talent, I would be a very smug man indeed. But since I neither have your talent or am a man, I suppose that is irrelevant.
Anyway, just wanted to say--these are utterly lovely. And also, I worship your hands and if I could, I would keep them in some kind of container filled with liquid which bubbles randomly like Jack did to the 10th Doctor's hand. Yours, I'm sure, is a fightin' hand. Which is why I won't try to snatch it away so that I can keep it in my own personal museum where I can have people pay millions to come and gape and point at it. No pictures, because those will cost about a thousand more bucks.
And this is getting weirdly detailed, so I will leave you to your hopefully pleased (yet slightly creeped out) feelings.
