Gonna mass upload a couple things from this project so I don't forget to post them later!A sketch sheet of the simply titled "Mare" character from my conceptual story The Spirit and the Mare.
I changed her design just slightly for her official sheet. Warmed up her coat just a smidge (in the colored version of Maternal she was all-grey) and gave her somewhat primitive hooves with the extra toes. I never liked the idea of her ankle spikes just being bony spikes sticking out of her, so I changed them to being more raptor-like claws. It makes sense somewhat since they are predatory creatures still and might need something like it for holding down prey they couldn't knock out or grab in their jaws. Dunno man!
This was an assignment for my Self-Publishing class.

I just have to ask, it's been bugging me for some time really.
Her name Mare, is it the female horse version of the mare? Or is it the old scandinavian use of the word mare, the grey folk?

Primarily the horse since her base animal is that, though I intentionally like to play on the "old gray mare" concept since she is, of course, an elderly character!

Grey folk doesn't mean old though, it means the malevolent small/invisible spirits/demons that roam between realms.

Ooh! I never heard of that before. That sounds really interesting. Also sorta ironic since my story has a spirit as one of the mains! Though my Mare is nothing close to malevolent.
