That is one badass tank.. o_O It seems he can go through everything.. Because of his heaviness I suppose he isn't useful in snow terrains..

Weathered tracks for snowfields. Meh - welcome to the future.

You will laugh, but there really was a project of SPG with 2 122 mm cannons in 1944. Project had a codename "Medved" (Bear). When one cannon shot, its kickback energy powered a loading device that loaded shell into another cannon - and vice versa. So this vechicle could fire shells very rapidly. Experiment with 2 85-mm cannons was successfull, but 122 mm cannon still hadn't an UNITARY shell so any automatic loading was useless for it. And then War ended and most military projects were closed.

Which came first - the Medved or the Ratte?

I heard about "Ratte" project, but nothing exact... But if it existed it was earlier. I made a mistake with Medved - it was developed in 1945-1946, not 1944.

I mean mass production.

AlexeiKazansky In reply to koplio [2007-10-31 02:54:17 +0000 UTC]

You can't mass produce this thing - it's expensive, and it'll clog up the battlefield because it's as slow as your grandmother's ass.

Probably one commander, 2 drivers, 2 loaders and 5 soldiers to operate guns & MGs.

So this soldier responsible for AAMG must have the most stressful job - unless there's a piece of armor that protects him.

Yes, he has the most stressful job. Nuff said. He's like, "Ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod... they're shooting at me!"

RTJDudek In reply to AlexeiKazansky [2007-10-30 14:03:06 +0000 UTC]

That's why if I had to operate a tank, I'd prefer to be a driver.

AlexeiKazansky In reply to RTJDudek [2007-10-30 14:04:22 +0000 UTC]

Actually, if you'd drive around like mad, and one of the gunners misses, he'll blame you. Never thought of that, didja?

RTJDudek In reply to AlexeiKazansky [2007-10-30 14:05:42 +0000 UTC]

You're right. But I'm 187 centimeters tall, so I can't operate a tank.
