Description I have never been in such as strong wind as up on Ger Tor on an otherwise perfect summers day. I am not exaggerating when I say that the wind was actually blowing my lips open when I relaxed them, it must have been 60 knots which was just nuts. There was no way that I could leave my tripod, it was just way too unstable, I had to hold it down whilst taking the shot.

I would be interested to hear opinions on this one.

yeah, 'steady as a rock' springs to mind

Those clouds are ridiculous! I love them. Plus the chaos of the piece...the wind in the grass, the clouds are getting tossed about, and yet I still feel like I'm moving in one direction - forward. The colours are beautiful too.

Thanks very much. This is a personal favourite of mine, but it tends to be met with a relatively cold recption from the people I have shown it to who are not photographers

What?!?! Are people crazy? Seriously...it's a gorgeous capture. Though I suppose a lot of non-photographers who I've shown my work or the work of others whom I adore to don't seem to get as keyed up as I do over it...well, poo on them! I wouldn't feel the exhibition was complete without it, which, by the way, I wish I could come to, but the pond lies between us, and I have an awful lot of stuff to do this summer concerning university. Anywho. I adore this photo, so turn that frown upside 'round!

We'll see, I showed this one to my parents today and they both really liked it. I might just include it as a talking point.
Thanks

Whilst a focal point amongst the heather in the foreground would have perhaps perfected this shot, I still think it holds all that's needed for it to be stunning!

The focal point is the heather! Thanks

Is the granite a little bright as looks like its in the shade? Is that due to the exposure time in daylight and/or the blueness of the sky?

Interesting motion. The clouds look like a pastels painting.

It is all in the shade. Its an exposure blend but I didn't do anything selective tot he granite. Thanks

Looks quite surreal, cant explain why but I like it, i think its the clouds and the grass. Very nice shot.

Overall I like the shot, its executed nicely, the clouds give the shot much needed texture. Compositionally I would have like to have seen more space on the right, it feels a bit crammed. Overall tho,

Interesting Image, I like the light and the colors. The sky is excellent and it has a strong pictorial effect. This same effect though fails to conceive the ideas of "strong wind", I had to read the caption. I think it is too blurred (to render the wind idea).

1/4?! No doubt was the wind violent in this one. Excellent frame Alex. Love the color tones and textures displayed here.

I've been experimenting with capturing the motion of grasses too. Such a variety of results.
Hope your well man.

great colours, too

I Love this shot. Well done

Well it is only a quarter of a second actually, and I didn't use any ND filters, just a polariser, but I know what you mean, thanks

Great. The pic has a very unique feeling, as though you had blurred the left side with a brush, but obviously it's only due to the "long" expo.

I do love the effect and the sky though.

Striking image! The clouds look so harmless and innocent, but the wind must have been lashing the grass so much! The blurred grass looks really cool :]

that kind of motion blur from only a 1/4 of a second? I hope you were wearing lead boots up there. I'm liking this picture, but if I'm nit-picking, the clump of cloud to the left unbalances the sky slightly. Nit well and truly picked.

This is a fascinating image. Really unusual. I love the "wind" capture.
For some reason the sky looks stitched? Almost like it is from another picture.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Alex37 In reply to JakeSpain [2008-07-26 08:04:34 +0000 UTC]

I think the sky might look stitched because I was shooting up a very steep hillside so the sky appears flat, it has no perspective.

To tell you the truth, I think this is really cool. Haha. Not something you normally see in a photo.

The clouds are amazing. The composition is good. Not knowing what all of the surrounding area looked like, I'm not exactly sure how I'd like it better.

I think with more rock with little areas of the blurred grass/flowers would me more appealing then a huge area of blurred grass.

I don't have much more to say than that. Haha. Good job.

Yeah I agree, and I searched at the time too. I have a couple of similar shots, but they dont have the flowers which I think are an important element. Thanks Matt

rjywvVSpcFNeqKks In reply to Alex37 [2008-07-25 22:43:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes. I wouldn't change the composition so much that the flowers' position was lost... the flowers are very important indeed. You're welcome!
