Being with Phil brought a thrill into Dan’s life. He loved being with the elder; he just felt safe, and happy. Being with Phil was easy like breathing, but sometimes when he was without his lover, it felt like there was a rock lodged in his throat.

“Dan?” Phil called for the younger through his bedroom door. “Are you alright?”

Dan burrowed in on himself in his dark blue blankets; he felt terrible. He squeezed his eyes shut when Phil knocked again on his door; he just wanted to be alone, but really he just wanted Phil to burst through his door like a knight in shining armor to save him from his sorrow.

Phil exhaled heavily, and let his shoulders slump; Dan had been avoiding him lately, and he was scared that Dan was bored with him. Dan was an attractive young man, and could attract anyone he wanted, but Dan picked him over all people. Now, Phil was thinking that Dan was coming to terms with his charm, and was secretly dating someone else behind his back, and that caused Phil to be slightly jealous and more observant of Dan when he saw the younger lurking around their apartment. Call it being possessive, but Phil would fight the person to the death if someone wanted Dan, and Phil was never a physical person to cause pain let alone verbally insult someone—that was more of Dan’s field—so he just assumed that Dan was going through an angst period.

“If you need me,” Phil paused, hoping that Dan would say something, but he didn’t, “if you need me, I’ll be at Peej’s, he needs some help editing a video,” Phil stated. He toed the ground for a moment, “I love you Dan,” he murmured, before leaving their apartment.

Dan shivered and let a soft sob leave him; he wanted Phil to be in here with him, holding him tight, murmuring that everything was okay, and kissing him until dots spotted his vision. How he wished his imagination would come true; last thing he wanted was for their relationship to end up like Magnus’ and Alec’s out of mistrust—God that book ruined his shipper heart—so instead of running after Phil, he stayed in bed, wishing that he could breathe properly without feeling like he was drowning in guilt.

Hours later, Phil came home a bit soaked since it was drizzling outside, and he yearned to be in his Superman PJ’s and have a lap full of Dan while they watched Buffy. Phil paused, Dan still was in his room. He didn’t know why, but the thought of Dan…no longer living popped in his head, and it sent him sprinting to Dan’s room.

“Daniel!” Phil screeched, and nearly broke down Dan’s bedroom door, and stumbled in the dark room since the door was unlocked.

“Phil, what’s the matter?” Dan asked worriedly.

Phil just stood there. He frowned at him, “You never answered me…I thought something had happened…I was scared.”

Dan realized what Phil was getting at and his guilt washed away. “You git! I wouldn’t kill myself!” he hissed angrily. He felt the air getting knocked out of him when Phil jumped on him, and he groaned weakly. “You jerk…”

“I wouldn’t let you go,” Phil whispered. “Ever.”

Dan swallowed thickly; he knew that for a fact, nor would he ever let Phil go; they were two pieces of the same puzzle, they were Merthur. He was the pratish king, and Phil was that silly warmhearted warlock. “I know,” he whispered. “That’s why I love you.”

“I love you too, my Danosaur,” Phil smiled softly, and pressed a kiss to the top of Dan’s Hobbit hair. And finally he heard Dan’s giggle after a week. Being with Dan was easy as breathing, and while Dan felt like he couldn’t breathe without Phil, Phil would stop living if Dan was no longer in his life.
