I remember that when I was very little, after going to kindergarten in the morning, my sister and I would stay at home watching television and my parents would put on the cartoon channel to entertain us and without a doubt, this series that I'm talking about marked me in my childhood, because although I don't remember clearly what it was about, I remember very well that in it some animals came out of the forest, which were looking for a new place to live and although the series is aimed at a children's audience, this series contains very strong and disturbing scenes that although I saw them, at the time they did not have a greater impact on me, until I was older, since the series has a somewhat dark plot full of very adult themes and during it in no point, the series is softened and deals with dark themes very seriously despite the audience to which it is directed and the truth is, I never remembered that in this series there were so many deaths and bloody scenes throughout the entire plot. This series I'm talking about is called: “The Animals Of Farthing Wood”, based on a series of children's books written by English author Colin Dann, directed by Philippe LeClerc, with music composer Detlev Kühne, produced by TeleImagination, with a total of 3 seasons and 39 episodes, being broadcast from 1993 to 1995.
The story is about a group of animals, which live in the forest, but are forced to leave their home due to the arrival of machines to demolish the entire forest. So according to Toad's stories, which he tells to the animals of a protected animal reserve called White Deer Park, the animals decide to go there in the hope of finding a new home and they all decide that Fox, an intelligent fox and cunning fellow to guide them and make him their leader; Badger, a wise and old badger who always gives Fox advice when he needs it most; Owl, a chatty owl who always speaks in metaphors; Weasel, a mocking and sarcastic weasel who has an annoying laughter; Adder, a menacing and stealthy snake always threatening to eat someone; Mole, a shy and quiet mole, among other animals, so the animals undertake a long and dangerous journey to White Deer Park and during their journey, the animals face various difficulties and dangers, some even end up dying in the most saddest scenes ever in animation, but some characters join on their journey such as Vixen, a beautiful and endearing female fox who becomes Fox's mate and at the end of the first season, the animals manage to reach White Deer Park and during the second and third seasons, the animals of Farthing Wood face other dangers such as blue foxes attack them; like the evil Scarface who is the leader of the blue foxes and his mate LadyBlue, who want to expel the newly arrived animals and the invasion of rats lead by a white rat named Bully that want to reign over all of White Deer Park. During the events of the second season, Fox and Vixen have four cubs, but unfortunately two of them die: Dreamer is attacked and annihilated by the evil Scarface to declare war against Farthing Wood animals and Bold dies after having left White Deer Park wanting fend for himself by returning to Farthing Wood, but succumbing to his own injuries while the other two cubs of Fox and Vixen remain alive in the rest of the seasons: Friendly, who is an angry and overprotective fox, and Charmer, who falls in love with one of Scarface's cubs called Ranger, a friendly young blue fox who avoids the altercation between their parents and with the union of both, they manage to bring peace between both sides and Fox gives them his blessing allowing them to become a couple at the end of the second season while Adder manages to kill off Scarface as revenge when he bit off her tail.
The truth is that of the entire program, the relationship between Ranger and Charmer seems tender and at the same time adorable, because I must admit that the plot of the second season of The Animals Of Farthing Wood reminds me of the second film of The Lion King II and without a doubt, Kovu and Kiara's falling in love reminds me of Ranger and Charmer's falling in love, in addition to the fact that the personalities of both female and male characters are similar and although The Animals Of Farthing Wood contains scenes that are very difficult to watch and quite disturbing deaths that in more than one occasion, they gave me nightmares, but in general it is a great series that teaches how hard life is, but that it is also important to respect it and take care of nature and the animals that inhabit it and protect the forests that exist there, taking consideration with taking care of nature, so if you want to watch this series, you can find it in its entirety on YouTube so you can enjoy and recommend it.
