Description
This is a present for my mothers birthday tomorrow. It's her, holding me. (yes, that's about twelve years ago, I guess xD)I used a picture for reference, used HB and 9B pencil and it took me a few hours to complete it, I have no idea how many. I got bored in the end, as how you can see. xD

May I ask why you think it's rude to post thanks messages on deviantcomments?

It's my opinion that they are to be reserved as a place for feedback and motivation for the artist in question, not as a way to further advertise onself and frustrate the artist by making him feel hopeful to receive kind words about his/her work, and then giving him/her the disappointment of getting out of the ordeal empty handed.
It also gives off the message of disinterest in the artist's work, and pretty much states that you don't think of it as worthwhile without giving any constructive commentary.
It's like going in and just saying "Thanks for looking at my work, yours sucks."
Also in my eyes, it's a rather asocial way of saying thanks. Dropping a pm alows for further comunication, and perhaps a more lengthy interaction and social networking.
But that's just my personal opinion.

I understand you.. but I don't really agree xD You could also send a pm to give feedback, the only difference is that that costs more time.. so if you like someone's artwork.. you might just as well send a pm. I rarely comment on someone's gallery by writing a deviant comment, I just comment on deviations.. and the most people I thank, I already know. So after seeing their gallery, and saying something about it, probably by commenting on deviations, I just say thanks..
And well, I think a deviant comment also allows for further communication.. it's just as easy to reply as it is to reply a pm.

But, wow.
The attention to detail is astounding! I love how realistic the wrinkles in her shirt/pants look.
The shading is done very well! However, to me it seems a little rough. (But I'm sort of anal-retentive, so, meh.) I'd suggest using something like a blending stub. Makes it smoother and more realistic.
Overall, wonderful job. If I was an art teacher I'd give you an A+.
