Description Note: I would usually leave such notes at the bottom of my comments, but I think that it is crucial here that non-specialists realize this - the following text is entirely fictional and should not be taken seriously.

I'm pleased to announce the discovery of a new species of tyrannosaurid: Tyrannosaurus traumadori! At just two meters long, it is the smallest tyrannosaurid to date and is commonly compared to more basal tyrannosauroids such as the similarly-sized and -built Raptorex kriegsteini. It was described by Dr. Alvar Paradigm in 2009. Tyrannosaurus traumadori is known to be a direct descendant of Tyrannosaurus rex, and Paradigm suspects that Tyrannosaurus traumadori branched away from Tyrannosaurus rex so recently that the two can still interbreed. In fact, the divergence is so recent (exactly before the Cretaceous-Paleogene Extinction, sixty-five million years ago) that Tyrannosaurus traumadori is essentially a neotenic (juvenile-characteristic-retaining) Tyrannosaurus rex. However, our discontinuous minds insist on creating artificial names and groupings, hence the "discovery" of Tyrannosaurus traumadori. (For more on the discontinuous mind, I recommend The Salamander's Tale in Dr. Richard Dawkins's The Ancestor's Tale*.)

You can read the details about the find on this blog ([link] ), written by the type specimen himself, no less!

*If anyone's concerned, there's nary a mention of religion in it! It's merely an excellent book that tells of how all living things are related and teaches you a thing or two about evolution itself along the way.
