Super human Powers and abilities: Perfect dark vision: Katrina is able to see in complot darkest and under water (regardless of water clarity) with near absolute clarity for a considerable distance.

 

Strange sight/sense (minor): Katrina has an uncanny ability to ‘see’ through magical illusions and detect medical power, beings or artefacts though she would have to be within relatively close range (about 200 meters) for this to work effectively. Once in the presence of a magical creature or artefact. Katrina will have a vague notion of the kind of magic, temperament and alignment a magical creature, artefact or power may posses or being used for. EG a vampire that has being praying on criminals and animals would be considered ‘dangerous’ and chaotic good to lawful evil

 

Were as a spirit that has being attacking the humans within its haunting grounds would be a far more evil being than the above mentioned vampire.

 

Water breathing: Katrina not only has the ability to hold her breath for a considerable amount of time but can also if she chooses to breathe water. Though she must prefer herself before and cannot switch over between air and water and back again, quickly. 

 

Electro sense: like many sharks and rays, when she is under water can sense nearby life though her senses are cognisable lesser than the before mentioned animals.

 

Magical spells lesser to minor: Katrina has an affinity for telekinesis often if not exclusively using this to control and manipulate water and can easily turn water into steam, ice and then back into water in short order with little lose.

 

Katrina has an slight affinity for Cronomancy which is the study and undersetting of time magic. She can slow time for everyone but herself (and other users of cronomancy and temporal anomalies) in a mild fashion which normally expresses itself in being able to counter, avoid and be able to predict blows with a reasonable degree of success. (ruffle 40% of the time) . She can with a great deal of preparation is also able to reverse time by 30 seconds to a minute. However this spell not only requires a great deal of time and resources to be assigned to it but also requires an extremely precise mental awareness and concentration. A moment’s distraction, a single phase not spoken in the right way will see the spell not only fail back can lead to dire consequences. She can also only activate the ability ‘once’ per event.

 

In other words she only has one chance to prevent, for example a team mate or friend dyeing and cannot at her current skill level go back to any given event more than once.

 

Effectively she gets one redo and must be well have the spell prepared well before hand and if she fails in casting the spell correctly or is disrupted. The consequences will be great

 

 

Katrina has also studied and gained some control over elemental magic (eg control over fire, earth air and water however she does not have the ability to create these elements or combine them and they most already be present.

 

Poison and magic immunity (high): while Katrina’s command over magic may be far form exemplary or even impressive to other magic users or magical beings. One area were Katrina shines well above most others is her resistance and immunity to all but the darkest most twisted and preserve (evil) magic’s and manmade and other worldly toxins.

 

 Magical enhancement (magical adrenal): Katrina is able to boost her physical abilities (eg straight, speed, ect) to super human and even transhumant levels for short times, however doing so often takes a profound cumulative toll on her body and mide.

 

Magical drain: she is able to consume magical energy to boost her own ability or weaken others however any boost she gains is extremely temporally and damaging to her body

 

Skills and normal ability’s: Swimmer near Olympic level

 

Skilled masksmen: Katrina is a very adapt though not extraordinary skilled in the use of fire arms, while she can use modern/ standard fire arms. She prefers using a spear gun, and flint lock pistols and rifles. She has also being know to make able use of a throwing harpoon and ropes.

 

Bruiser: no stranger to bar room brawls or fighting unthinking beings and creatures from the darkest corners of human myth and legend. Katrina’s fighting style is singly brutal and piggish. She prefers to overpower and brutish her opponents weather they be human or creatures that haunt the most twisted imaginations. She is also far from an honourable fighter and is unafraid to fight dirty or throw the first pouch.

 

Master of the waves, Ship Captain: coming from a long line of the saltest of sea man, (ha) merchant ship captains , fisher man and ship captains. Katrina has an intermit knowledge the operations of most civilian ships inside and out. She can easily command the respite of even the most rag tag disorganised crew and given time turn them into a well oiled machine.

 

Having spent most of her long life around sea faring folk or on the open water herself, Katrina has a keen sense of weather systems, tides and the moods of the ocean and can track even the most elusive of sea life with easy..  

 

 

Weaknesses: Abyssal nightmares: Ever since encountering her arch nemesis the vampire squid, Katrina has being almost constantly plagued by debilitating and traumatic nightmares filled with death, destruction and the ever pressing perverse thoughts of the eldritch and magical creatures and beings that drawn to Innsmouth like mouths to a flame, for most among them are the thoughts and plans of the vampire squid. While these nightmares often wax and wane in intensity often in conjunction with the vampire squid’s own level of activity they are not completely linked to the beast or at least not totally, just as often if not more so Katrina is assaulted by the twisted thoughts and ambitions of other powerful beings form another worlds. In other words when the squid or other similar creatures become more active and come out of hiding, her dreams grow in intensity and detail and when the squid and its fellows are defeated and slip away to lick their wounds. The dreams while always present are much reduced in scale and detail. These dreams not only serve as something of an early warning system but are somewhat predictive in nature.

 

Despite her steely nerves and no nonsense altitude, decades of mental assault from beings that are as far removed from humanity as we are removed from single celled life if not more so, Has taken a dreadful toll of Katrinas sensibilities and mood.

 

However briefly before the dawn of the New age (2060 to 70) for the first time in decades, the nightmares and invasive corrupting thoughts of beings beyond her understanding all but silenced over night. For the first time since her first faithful encounter with the vampire squid. When Katrina closed her eyes all that greeted her was darkness.

 

At first Katrina celebrated but as the days turned into weeks and then mouths she being sensing that darkness in her dreams was no reprieve but the spore of something far older and darker then the vampire squid or any of its kin slipping into the world.

 

 

Frozen age: Due in no small part to unusually link to the creature known only as the vampire squid. Katrina has for all intervene peruses stoped ageing and has shown remarkable ability to heal from wounds. While some would see this as a gift,  Katrina see this as only a curse as she has remanded frozen in time as all her friends, family and city move on without her. This has left her with a growing sense of alienation and isolation and her feeling toward her fellow man have grown increasingly cold and her temper easy frays as more and more her mind tends to wonder in dark places. This has also prevented her form having a family or developing long lasting relationships

 

The price: all mortal magic user (and many immortal and magical being to boot) must all pay a price for the power they use. Katrina’s price it worse than most as her power source for magic comes if not directly from the vampire squid its flow and poeticise is channelled though and from its abhorrent form and is a buy product of whatever horrid will moves with what passes for the alien  beings mind. This has allowed the squid and its fellows to whisper in her ear, influencing her thoughts and actions. While Katrina can argument her magical know age and power form other sources, these seem to only straighten the squids own power and control. Katrina fears that despite her many battles with the squid and defeating and even wounding it on several occasions, she is nothing more than a play thing for the creature, a pawn to be moved about and discarded when the time is right.  

 

Another side effect of the price, is despite the fact she heals from nearly any injury she will still feel the pain of  even the slightest wound, long long after it has faded. Some injuries she has suffered she feels years and even decades after the original injury.

 

Prisoner of vice: due to the terrible dreams and her worsening isolation from humanity and those she loves and protects. Katrina has become an increasingly heavy drinker and prone to drug abuse and frequently abides in other vices to dull her senses.  However due to her immunity to toxins, drugs and alcohol do very little for her. which othen leads her to consuming twice as many drugs, alcohol and other vices.

 

Falling founds: While Skate family was never super wealthy, they through hard work and deduction were able to form a sizeable and respectable nest egg, however due to Katrina’s growing debts brought on by her vices and several failed ventures and need to found her one women crusade against the criminal scum of innsmouth in all their various forms and the supernatural creatures that infest Innsmouth. That nest egg and the families image has fallen considerably during Katrina’s more active periods of vigilantly justice.  

 

Mix feelings: due to her often brutal and hash methods yet undeniable effectiveness , the people of innsmouth often have wildly differing views on kraken. While many innsmouth residences rich and poor alike once openly admired her and believe her actions and methods were more than necessary in the hay day of the golden age of crime. In the decades since cooler heads have mostly prevailed and many have consider their first loyal hero little better than a thug and bully. Though even into the New age many of the people of innsmoth do carry a strange affection for the Kraken though most would admit she was extremely flawed. To this day her actions are still highly debated and controversial

 

Light sensitivity: since first encountering her nemesis the vampire squid, Katrina’s eyes have slowly but surely become more and more adapted to see in darkness. This has had the side affect of making her eye sight very sensitive to light sources, especially the sun. 

 

 

Gear and notable tools or vehicle’s: Goggles: Katrina has to wear’s high end light filtering goggle’s to shield her eye form light sources that may trouble her.

 

Fire arms: Katrina makes use of both Flint lock pistols use more modern hand held fire arms but prefers the older style or ideations of weapons and she frequently uses a Spear gun

 

Antique whaling harpoon: due to its contact with magical energies it presents a grater  danger to magic users and magical creatures

 

Bladed weapons: Katrina often wears a pair of heavily in graved wrist guards which have a presser activated puch blade hidden within. She also carries a number of Small knifes

 

Shoulder bag: normally contains lengths of rope, a grappling hock, ammunition for her flint lock and other pistols. Several dozen small smoke bombs, choke smoke bomb a collection of keys and lock picks and several repayment spears for her spear gun.

Katrina often carries a wide array of varied magical charms, pelotons, powder’s, herbs and potions on her person or with in her shoulder bag. While these magical items are not known for their straight they are extremely varied and can provide differing buffs or protections. They also can serve as a magical top up as she can drain an object of its power.

 

Charm of the kraken: this is a small pin shaped like the mythical creature of its name sake has being passed down the Skate family tree since the golden age of sail. Despite looking like nothing more than a simple metal Medallion the charm is in fact created form and extremely rare and potent magical material often referred to as ‘either bone’. The charm grants Katrina a messier of protection against magical based attacks and happenings it also grants Katrina a dim ‘awareness’ of up immediate threats.

 

(Much like spider mans spider sense but far more limited in rang, scope and sensitive)

 

Uniform: Katrina’s primary uniform, which consists of a face mask, knee length dress coat , tricome hat. The above mentioned goggles and wrist armour and goggles, also includes heavy reinforced combat boots and long pants. Due to several rare material’s some of which are semi mystical in origin. Her clothes are far more resistant than would appear form first glance. However this level of protection is considered only slight higher than police issued ballistic plate.  However due to thee style of dress the uniform can be slightly restrictive.

 

Enemy’s: criminals, cultists, (evil) occultists, gangs, (evil or dangerous) spirits and magical creatures. Elder beasts, cosmic horrors, monsters , demons. (evil) magic users. Arkham ranger’s (active only during the gold age of crime)

Allegiances: the salt born , local law enforcement (extremely begrudgingly), the churches of insmouth. Coast guard (begrudgingly) force works (recently joined)

Intelligence: Katrina possesses a spark of Cullen brutality and can be considered reasonably Intelligent though not so much in books smarts as in lived experiences. She is more than happy to solve any problem that faces her with an application of over whelming direct force.

 

 She is by no means stupid and will make an effort to better her understating of a subject or area where she is ignorant but she is slow to take in and make use of  information she uncovers and will only persuse betterment or knowledge for immediate results. Thus she views any learning that is not of immediate worth to be a waste of time

 

She is very knowledgeable about all many of boat/shipping and ocrean/sea and weather realting supjects.

Team role/ heroic or villous archetypes:  Magical enhanced brusher, short ranged skirmisher

 

Personality: Katrina is direct and brusk in almost all her dealings with other people to the point of often openly attacking other peoples character flaws often with the goal to have them bite back at her. She is a firm believer the force and by extension violence is the one true authority from which all others derive their power and legitimacy.

 

 She is by all measures a blunt hammer but do not mistake her blunt and often authoritarian manner for that of a bully. She respects straight above all other qualities and those that do not back down from her or meet her on even footing can earn her respect.

 

While she is a harsh task master she will treat anyone that can and will stand up for themselves equally and fairly.  Somewhat paradoxically she will protect those that cannot protect themselves but unlike other heros whom would wash their hands of the civilians they save as soon as they are safe. Depending on the situation Katrina will take time to aid these people in such a way as they will more than likely not need her or anyone elses aid again.

 

Miscellaneous bits:  

Katrina’s grandfather was not born in innsmouth, he moved their as a young man and build the family’s fishing, and merchant shipping company from the ground up. He was originally from a very small fishing community called Edgewater which is located on a small island of the cost of Main land massachusetts.

 

The residences of Edgewater are descended from the original native islanders and generations upon generations of pirates and sailors that used the island as a port of call or were, ship wrecked there. An interesting quick about edge water is that almost all the buildings both modern and vintage are almost entirely built out of all ships, everything from sailing boats from the golden age of sail, to war ships from conflicts as new as ww3 and everything in-between.  

 

 

Katrina first gained her powers when she was a much younger and different woman. After years of proving herself to her father a hard man with even harder standards to live up to, she had finally earned her stripes and had become the captain of her own ship and crew. Wishing to prove her metal she took her troller out well past the normal fishing/shipping lanes that innsmouth fisher’s had being patrolling for generations. When she entered the heart of a storm system which had appeared seemingly out of no ware while chasing a school of rare and prised fish that the hulling of which would garner she and her crew with much respect and a health payday.

 

Ignoring the warnings of her, own senses and the fear of her crew Katrina would not turn back even as the storm worsened and the longer it raged the more and more unnatural it became.

 

In truth the storm was no mere unprecedented weather system but was the sign of something not of this place or time slipping though the thin walls of reality that surrounded.   The fledging vampire squid found its way into the Katrina’s boat ‘the kraken’ nets as the tear it and squirmed through closed behind it. 

 

The unnatural storm passed as soon as it started and Katrina managed to capture an impressive amount of school of fish she had being chasing and headed back to innsmouth harbour unaware of the nightmare thing that had also caught in her ships nets.

 

The creature soon began to grow at an alarming rate consuming the bounty of the Kraken’s net but its hunger could not be satisfied by mere fish no matter how rare and set its eyes on Katrina’s crew and began consuming their minds and souls, twisting their bodies of the crew to serve its diabolic will.

 

Katrina realised the threat as her ship entered the innsmouth harbour to much fan fare. The creature had burst free of the trollers holding tanks and its twisted meat puppets were ruing amuck dragging those that had not fallen to the creatures sway yet to the beasts ever hungry maw. Katrina armed herself with antique whaling harpoon and flint lock pistols that had being passed down her family line for a dozen generations and more modern equipment and lastly but by no means lastly a talisman that had being in Skate family for hundreds of years and was rumoured to be a good luck charm and had once being blessed by a powerful witch doctor in the golden age of sail.

 

The vampire squid had grown to a huge size by the time Katrina was ready to face it, its block and mad thrashing had started to rip the kraken apart. Katrina faced the nightmare thing and her now mutated and twisted crew without hesitation, she cut her way through the shambling zombies with ease but when she brought her weapons against the vampire squid they were no ware near effective. The squid was a whole other mater, she shot at it with her flint pistols and stabbed at it with  knife and harpoon alike but nothing worked, the creature was about to finish her off when she desperately held up her families old charm.

 

To her shock the creature not only recoiled from the charm but seemed to be hurt but its presence. Gathering some ropes and netting, she tired the charm to the half of her harpoon and drove it into the squids unholy flesh, wounding it for the first time.

 

The squid unused to pain recoiled from the assault and tried to abandon the now sinking ship. 

 

Katrina tired one end of a rope around herself and on at the end of her harpoon, lanced the creature in the side as it fled into the roiling ocean. Katrina would not relent as the beast dragged her deeper and deeper into the water, using the wound her harpoon hard carved in the beast as an Anker, she cut into the beasts flesh with ever blade she had managed to keep on her, the ocean filled with its corrupted blood until it finally managed to remove the harpoon in its side and fled Katrina’s retribution.  

 

Katrina cursed her fate, as she sunk to the bottom of the ocean swallowing sea water and the blood of the vampire squid alike by the lung full and lost consciousness. Days later, Katrina was found by rescue workers and salvagers that had seen the kraken’s final moments though none had managed to see the squid or those that had kept quite about it.

 

She would awaken on that boat a changed woman, her body racked by the pain of a thousand healed wounds, her eyes now completely red and now aware of a world beyond the one she had always known. She would share the full extent of her story with very few and those that had heard her tail thought her mad. Though as he lack of ageing became more noticeable by what remained of her family and her few assonates her once tall tailed became far more readily believed.    

 

However buy that point Katrina had long since chosen to distance herself from her family and what friends she had having chosen to take the fight to the unnatural creatures that lurked in her cities shadows  and often prayed on the people of her city. Slowly her nightly routine was shared among the people of innsmouth, at first she was just another urban legend but has her fame grew and she no longer fought only the creatures of the night but human evil doers as well.

 

She was recognised as Innsmouths first super hero

 

The sea born: the sea born is the name that the law (or those that don’t actively seek to hurt normal humans or each other) abiding community magical creatures, magic users and occultists of innsmouth call themselves. They have a love hate relationship with Kraken

 

Arkham: Arkham is another small fishing town and long time revival of Inssmouth. During the golden age of crime with shit hitting the fan all over the world leading to a massive uptake in gang violence, organised crime, super villainy and civil disobedience reached dazing new heights as humanity looked down the barrow of a catastrophic climate disaster and collectively thought that its days were numbered.

 

The Revival between Innsmouth and Arkhim reached a fever pitch when a group calling themselves the Arkhim rangers formed and started harassing the people of innsmouth. While at first they were little different than most other gangs and bands of low life thungs, they soon showed they were nothing of the kind. In truth they were a hate group that blamed the people of innsmouth for all the wows their city faced in the troubled times of the golden age of crime, while all innsmouth citizens suffered during their reign of terror. None suffered more so then those afflicted with a strange skin/ deformity condition that seemly only effects the people of Innsmouth commonly called ‘the innsmouth look’.

 

The Arkhim rangers would brazenly attack, beat and even murder anyone they found that were afflicted with the innsmouth look, regardless of the severity of their condition. Even those that did not have the ‘look’ but suffered from any condition that could and couldn’t be mistaken for the look or other disability either mental or physical drew the ranger’s murderous attention. 

 

While those that suffered from the innsmouth look were and had being generally looked down upon and ostracised from society for generations, the brazen slaughter of its resdances, weather they were afflicted with the look or not could no longer be ignored. The People of innsmouth banded together to defend their fellows and their city from the brazen attacks they had turned a blind eye to for far to long and being strakeing back at the rangers in force.

 

Within a matter of weeks and with much assuatance form their local hero, the people of innsmouth drove the Arkhim rangers out of their city once and for all, the rangers slinking back to their own city with their tails between their legs.

 

However with their blood up ,and with the unofficial support and backing of their police and some support of their very own super hero Kraken. Ganges of enraged and blood thirsty Innsmouth hunted down any surviving Rangers they could find and their familys would exchange and began reaping a bloody toll upon them. 

 

Katrina soon realised the era of her erstwhile support and having turnedg a blind eye to the innmouth organised criminal gangs. As while the peoples of Innsmouth and Arkhim were preoccupied with their dispute, many of their organised crime syndicates, gangs and criminal family’s which had hidden from plan sight upon the kraken’s emeagance of as a super hero beigan once again extending their influence and power within Innsmouth and Arkhim at a unprecedented rate.

 

 

While most of the crime familys, gangs and what have would soon fall under the sway of King Crab, his major if only rival (in a criminal sense) the Carpenter crime family became a persistent thorn in his side.

 

Previously the Carpenter crime family were one of the minor crime families with in Innsmouth and of little note , however thanks in large to their own super villainous scion, the Pelican their fortunes and influence grew enough to erk King Crab.

 

With the citys residences otherwise occupied the actions of these criminals often drew, Katrina’s attention away from the blood fued and back to fighting crime as most of the innsmouth police were either in the pocket of one gang or another if they were not active combatants in the blood fued.

 

 

Without Katrina’s assistance and with increasing corruption and divided loyalties on both sides, the blood feud soon turned into little more than disorganised random acts of violence that would peter out as the golden age of crime grew to and end.

 

Since the end of the golden age of crime both cities have done their best to erase all mention of this shameful chapter of their history.

 

A part of this settlement was the Kraken was official ‘cut off’ form innsmouth and would no longer be given and official support and would be hunted down by a task force made up of police officers recruited from both citys.

 

This played as well as the incressinly terrible dreams she suffered from played a major role in Katrina levelling Innsmouth and joining the vigilante team, Force works. Which she had run in’s with since being recognised as innsmouths local super hero.

 

 

Force works, was originally created between ideations of the Avenger’s by Tony Stark and a few other heroes with the goal of countering the unofficial government backed team, the thunder bolts.

 

 However as the heroic age dragged on, the Avenger’s and Tony’s attention were needed drawn else ware. Force works struggled to stay afloat and disband before first decade of the new millennium was over and by in large force works would be seen as a joke by both super heroes and civilians alike until it reform during the golden age of crime.

 

Though due to this reform they far more resembled the government back task force of the thunderbolts, Being at this time primary made up of both former and semi active villains, violent anit heroes and vigilante’s than the ground side smaller scale avengers Esk team Tony Stark had envisioned it as.

 

However unlike the thunderbolts which were detested by both civilians and super heroes alike. The rebirth and new mission statement/ actions of force works were far more welcomed by the civilians and for a time during the golden age of crime as the major super hero teams bickered like school children over the super human registration act and the super hero civil war that would fallow.  Force works popularity rose to stagging heights by the middle of the golden age of crime even out completing the avengers in popularity for a brief time.

 

However as the super human registration act was tuned up and became the far more palatable super human powers act and the super hero civil war ground to a close

 

Force works started to lose their populate as the ‘new avenger’s’ team lead by Luke Cake aka power man and his wife Jessica Jones whom had formed the ‘New avengers team” showed the population that old fashioned heroics could still be effective and the bloody and shady tactics of force works and the thunder bolts were no longer needed or required.

 

With Force works star now falling back into obscurity the team continued to try and justify its existence for years into the age of victory taking on risker and risker missions, often outside the United states. Soon enough they began operating almost exclusively outside the united states and allied nations preview.

 

Briefly before the out brake of ww3, Force works would lend their aid to independences movement of a small African nation that had being ransacked by civil war for decades. The independence movement had fought and uphill battle against their diabolic dictator.

 

As they were the only major super powered element in the war, they turned the tide in the war in favour of the independence movement within a matter of weeks They even managed to kill the dictator not only after entering the war and won the independence the war.

 

However it was not without cost, the leader and several other members of Force works were killed in the effort. The leader of Force works dyeing in one on one combat with the dictator himself.

 

Without their leader along with most of the team dead and their job seemly done, Force works disbanded for a seconded and final time as the great nations of the earth readied themselves for ww3.

 

 

The teams surviving members would be disheartened feather when the nation they had fought and bleed for soon feel under the sway of the dictator’s son whom put his father’s cruelty to shame as he began committing horrifying war crimes the likes of which had not being seen since ww2.

 

 

Katrina was extremely dishearten and demoralised by not just her teams disbanding but as well as years of being tormented by nightly terrors spawned form beings birthed form primordial evil soon searched for any way to escape. In her despair she would for a time give herself wholly to her vices as she had felt she had failed her team, her city, her family and herself.

 

After much effort she was eventually able to dig her way out of her slow add tempted suicide and was short after back on her feet, however even with her miraculous  recovery she was not yet ready to go back to fighting the good fight. Not that she would welcomed back in Innsmouth she knew. Katrina was not as without friends or those rooting for her as she may have thought.

 

One of her former Force works colleges had an offer for Katrine she could ill afford to refuse, this follow former super hero like many others failed or past their prime heros were being to be giving the opturtnity  to earn a 2ed chance, in space.

 

The Unite states and other nations, had constructed a small number of orptail space colonies but desperately needed super heros (or former super heros in Katrina’s case) to only indorse the project in order to get the weary puplic behind the coloenys but belive they were safe enough to live in after the disaster that payed no small part in setting of ww3 several years before. When the USA, China, The fansatic four and inhumans tryed and failed to build earths first interstellar engine on the moon.

 

Katrina like many of her fellows found a messure of peace when she was located to one of the largest of the US’s colony’s. Harvest station, becoming a humble sea weed farmer

 

However as the New age dawns, and as the persaive darkness of her dreams sture she may yet return to Earth and her city of birth.

 

For even in space she has heard rumours of two new heros calling her city home as things in the shadow sture and ready to strike
