A drawing of a Tal'Harton; an alien race based off of... Can you guess?This is an original species created by my husband for his Star Trek Simm: [link] They're also the current 'bad guys' of the story.
This particular character is High Inquisitor Voss, their spiritual leader (they're a race of religious zealots on a quest to convert the galaxy).
I've got to say, I didn't think I was going to be able to draw a Cobra dude... I'm glad I proved myself wrong.
I like it when that happens, because I'm a pessimist, so being wrong is often a good thing. Pencil and PS.

The Tal'Harton are from the Gamma Quadrant. So any common evolution is just a coincidence.

That wasn't to suggest it couldn't happen. 
It did have me wondering, though. Β After all, somehow the Voth got all the way from Earth to the Delta Quadrant.

I can't answer too many questions about their evolution, since I'm not the creator, just the artist. I have the perspective of a player who is discovering more about the species as it's uncovered (he doesn't tell me everything, so as not to ruin surprises in the game). I don't believe he had the Selay in mind when he created them, so I'm pretty confident there is no common evolution. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain. I am sure that they, unlike the Voth to the Delta quadrant, are native to the Gamma Quadrant. So they did in fact evolve there.

lol I think I might have been inspired by the mood of Stargate, even if I've only seen a few episodes. When I finished the image that's immediately what popped into my head, which is probably where the Egyptian theme came from. That and the Egyptian God, Set, who was a snake.
