I had an octopus for a brief period several years ago. I caught him by accident in brackish water and gave him a 150 gallon tank. I named him Oscar. 

He was so entertaining.
I broke a large terracotta pot in half and laid it in the sand. He made a cool home of it. He would scoop up crab shells ( I caught for him every week) and built a trap door. Occasionally you could see a single eye peeking out of a small opening looking for his next meal or a tentacle would stretch out and feel around for a meal. Occasionally I would throw in Shrimp. 

After awhile I released him near a reef so he might find a sweetheart. Best aquatic friend ever. Good memories. Thanks for that.

sounds like lovely experience! they are smart beings and i never had a chance to meet some of them personally.

my friend saved water dragon from terrarium full of sand and no water...
nice companion but with pretty simple cold instincts, no funny games just waiting to devour what should be devoured.
