There's been some speculation among Lion King/Simba's Pride fans about who Kovu's father is (it was originally Scar, but Disney realised this would make him and Kiara second cousins as well as mates. Big no-no).One possible (but obscure) candidate is a rogue lion named Ni, who appeared in one of a series of books based on TLK that took place after the events of the film ( [link] ). Even though Ni has practically none of Kovu and Vitani's traits, it's an interesting idea.
Who knows? Zira might've named her daughter after him. (Vitani has no meaning in Swahili (it's an alteration of her original name, "Shetani", meaning "devil"), but "Ni" means "I am", and "Vita" means "disease". "Disease-I-Am." Wow.)
EDIT (3-14-13): My mistake, "vita" actually means war, not disease (thanks to ~baltoscamplover4ever for pointing this out). "Vitani" apparently also has several meanings of its own, including the plural form of flax, linen and string, and..."ducks". :/

"Vita" means "war" in Swahili- possibly becoming (I Am War), and "Vitani" indeed has a meaning- it means "ducks."

Oops -- you're right. I think the reason I made that mistake back when I first posted this picture is because there was a great TLK fanfic I was into around that time called Pride Lands: Generations. It featured two lions named Kufa and Vita. I looked up the meanings of their names and discovered that they meant "disease" and "war"...but then forgot which meaning went with which name.

I don't think that Ni really fathered any of Zira's cubs, though. I think one of the only reasons I made this comic was because Ni's name makes up 1/3rd of Vitani's name.

As for your questions, it's never implied in any of the TLK movies or books that ruling males kill cubs that aren't theirs (as far as I know), and the closest thing we have to an "official" verdict on the identity of Nala's father (straight from the mouths of one of the TLK directors) is that it's either Mufasa or Scar, though many fans reject that idea (I'm not entirely in support of it either).

I was reading about Lions and how the Lionesses have to protect the cubs that aren't his because otherwise they could be killed. I know Disney doesn't completely follow how animals would act in the wild. I was just making a fun comment.

Hmm...I did a quick search of online Swahili/English dictionaries, and only one (the first search result) said that "vitani" meant "ducks". Some of the dictionaries didn't have an entry for it, while others said it was the plural of "linen", "flax" or "string".

true there not but then you can't say Kovu and Vitani are full siblings. Her dark eye area comes from Scar. So does Nuka. Kovu's dark eye's may come from Zira's upper dark eye area. Besides. All the Dark furs in the movies have dark upper eye areas.

Really? I tried looking "Vitani" up in the English/Swahili dictionary while it was still up and couldn't find an entry. Does it mean "war" in another language?
And since "Shetani" means "she-devil" or something like that, maybe the creators thought it wouldn't be a good idea to name a character something like that.

In lion King 2 When you first see Nuka he says "Scar just took him in" (Kovu)

The problem with that line is that it means that Kovu was born before Scar died, and Kiara was born sometime after he died, putting a gap of several months between them. This would make Kovu almost a teenager when he met Kiara the first time, since lion cubs grow very fast. Of course, Kovu could have been a runt and Kiara could have been really really premature...
