Was a beginner's mistake, when I did most of these portraits I wasn't working on a reclined drafting table
to have my sight perpendicular to the paper, so as I drew on the dining table, it became a bit warped, and I also didn't use
a grid or pencil measurements. When I went to the painting course in 2006, our teacher did mention how you can
use your brush or pencil to re-measure proportions horizontally and vertically, which helped to correct proportion mistakes.
Thank you very much for your kind words and for taking a look around!

Wow, this is absolutely incredible. I love colored pencil medium. I really like the way you made her face a lot more highlighted on this than it was in the reference photo. It really makes her eyes stand out. You've done an incredibe job keeping the colors realistic and true to life, yet they have a brilliance as well. Her lips and pallette under her nose are perfect, its amazing how you kept the topmost highlight on her pallette, it creates such incredible depth. That sweater must have taken you longer than the face. I really love this, colored pencil potraits always astound me and this is no different.

Incredible work.

Thank you so very much for a really insightful and descriptive comment! ...I'm so thrilled that you found this to your liking since you also love color pencils. My brown color went out like crazy and I had to get a new one! but it was well worth it. I've come to enjoy color pencils only until a recent time, since I use to work primarily on pencil and the first portrait i did in CP was the one of Norah Jones...hopefully i'll be lucky enough to have her autograph my original and I'll give her a copy of course.but anyways, i've been learning to explore what happens when you use the CP's in different ways.. like from lighter to darker tones..or from darker to lighters, not always giving the same effect...also the paper helped a bit..it was grainy but not that grainy... and the sweater was actually the fast part..took about one hour at the most...if you look closely you'll notice my strokes are actually fast and like on a rush (i was getting anxious to finish the portrait..hehe) so i tried to give more the impression of texture by simply doing closer straight hatches...and using at least 4 different greens and a bit of brown in the end to shadow overall...anyways..glad you liked this and favored this ..and i'll be sure to stop by your works soon too!!...i took a quick peek at your gallery and it's full of great works..keep it up!

Don't mention it, its really refreshing to find an artist on deviant art who has the same interests in mediums. Its incredible how many things you can do with colored pencil. Its so awful when you run out of a color! it kills me! Thank you so much for the watch! I am so incredibly flattered. I can't wait untill you submit a new piece! I'll be waiting!

Always,

Jenny

you're welcome indeed..and truly your work deserve the watch ...I wish i could draw as much as I've been having the 'craving' or 'mojo' lately, as another DA buddie refers to the drawing inspiration (agh..to bad there's not emoticon available of austin powers..lol ) but right now I'll be working my free time in completing a 3d render for a temptative remodeling they want to do at a YMCA where i swim during summer months. From october till the present day i've done about seven or eight drawings, three of them color penciled, and the more I do them, the more i feel i have to draw...it's like an enjoyable but controlable madness, or yearning... so right now i have to keep pencils down and work more on the puter...but thanks for the encouragment, it's also enjoyable to know that fellow artists will be expecting future uploads from someone, and by the same token, hope to be seeing more of your works soon!! take it easy Jenny ~ Juan Pablo

Gorgeous. I usually write quite elaborate comments, but I'm at a loss here - simply speechless. Unbeliavable that this could have been achieved with coloured pencils. And I can't admire the skin tones enough, it's always so difficult... but perfectly done here.

Akifan In reply to manuelka [2005-01-11 02:14:24 +0000 UTC]

thank you very much! manuelka... I'm very thrilled and happy that you liked this drawings, Kat's portrait was the second drawing i've done using color pencils...they're not very forgiving..and there's little room for mistakes..but i'm glad this one came out alright... so i know what you say about the skin tones...in the recent portraits i've been growing more confident to use larger areas covered with the pigment...a little wrong line or wrong pressure at the wrong place can be suddenly a disaster..hehe..but getting to know deviantart has certainly been a wonderful source for the most diverse and intricate sources of inspiration to keep the pencils busy ... thanks agian

Very smooth coloring. I think color pencils are very hard to master, but you have done a great job. The eyes are brilliantly colored and so is the pullover. And I like that you have made this warmer than the original photo.

Akifan In reply to Anneliini [2004-12-14 05:06:35 +0000 UTC]

Really?? Thank you so much for such kind words ...I thought at first that maybe I still lacked to have applied more shadow to 'her' right side of the face..but then again, chose to leave the colors as is. I was threading carefully all the time..because you say true about the color pencils in being hard...they are not very forgiving...and I'm trying to gain confidence to cover more and larger areas of 'sensitive' spots like skin colors...also because there's always the risk that your layer was not uniform in the way you make the strokes...then when you apply and adjacent spread to match the color..sometimes you 'overlay' the already covered area, which results in a darker unwanted spot..hehe.. but with enouragment like this for sure i'm really glad and eager to keep on working with color pencils. thanks again

Akifan In reply to cfitzart [2004-12-11 14:17:47 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much, Chris...it was an interesting challenge and color pencils are not very forgiving...I was trying to thread cautiosly all the time as I did this...because how little room there is (at least for me) to make adjustments to the blendings and shading, but once I got up to the point of the second WIP..it was more downhill ...it helped a lot to use my electric pencil sharpener and keep all the points sharp all the time, to spread in finer layers and hatch patterns the initial particles...that helped to create a first later to smoothen the texture over the paper, making it easier for the next layers to "fall in and blend", without so much blank little spots. thanks again buddie .
