Framed original is for sale - note if interested!This was done for an assignment in my art class where I am given a title of an existing work and have to create art based on that title without knowing of the actual work. It was very open-ended, which I enjoyed.
The title I got was "Luminous". Because I enjoy playing with light and contrast in my works, I knew this would be an interesting one. I had several ideas originally, but one that stood out to me and was the most original was this one, of my wolf character Waterise standing at the edge of a magical, shining underground pool. I have not quite developed Waterise's backstory, but I know that I want her to have some sort of magical ability to see things in water, which I tried to communicate here. It was quite an interesting exploration, and though there are some things in it I would like to fix, I enjoy how it turned out overall.
The colors changed a bit when I scanned it, but of course that's going to happen with every scan.

This is an absolutely beautiful peace of work! The anatomy and the fur looks so realistic! The wolf has a nice expression as well. The lighting is just amazing! It really looks like it's glowing, must have taken quite some hard work and thinking. I'm very impressed, this drawing has earned a very special spot in my favourites gallery! The colors are really soft but have such a powerful contrast and realistic look. You have a really good technique here with coloured pencil crayons. The colors are pretty too. The blues and greens and greys are in perfect harmony with each other I really like what you did with this. Fantastic job! If you wanted to add a more magical look to it you could add little glowing dots around the water, but it looks so amazing as is. So yes, absolulty great job here!!

Thank you so much for the critique! I'm glad to know what I did well so that I could apply it to my future work. And the glowing dots might be a good idea... I do have a white gel pen. I got it after I completed this, so it didn't come to my mind, but maybe I should try adding some. Thanks again! ^^

You're so very welcome! It's fun to learn from each other, giving new ideas and accepting them while still keeping your own style, it's fun and interesting to experiment with new techniques. majestic piece and I love the water, A little suggestion for you when you color water, Do it exactly how you did it but add stronger pressures along the currents or waves and go over it with a white color pencil, it will give it that smooth and milky look, Here is one of my drawing, I did the same thing but just added the white color pencil and it made a big difference~ kazukioredpanda.deviantart.com…

Nice work on pencils colored. It's a little too striky maybe a little tissue to flend it would help it to make it more natural ? :3

I don't know, I've never tried using tissue to blend things. I should play around with that - thanks for the recommendation!

What a beautiful piece. Your shading is very smooth and beautiful, and I love your sense of anatomy. I love how well you've drawn the blue reflecting onto the wolf. It looks very elegant and beautiful, and I absolutely love the glow on the rocks as well. Lovely job. Keep it up.
