Description A lot of people ask me "How do I do fur". It's hard to explain because I have no real trick for painting it, I simply paint it. But maybe this will help to explain.

This is a 100% size closeup of this picture: [link]

As you can see, I just painted the fur. I usually use a brush which is sensitive to pressure so that it's opacity changes, NOT THE SIZE! That's quite important for me. I paint the background colour, then I add details. First, I use wide, soft brush, and add the main shadows. I keep adding details with smaller, harder brushes. Also setting the opacity to a lower level helps sometimes - just experiment (it works for a complex texture, but not for clean details).

BUT the most important thing is still to follow the shades and 3D structure of the furry object you draw as well as the fur direction. If you put the fur into wrong direction or the shades aren't working well, don't erase them, but rather paint above. Usually, the longer I "scribble" the fur lines above each other, the better it looks, because somehow, the texture gets as complex as desired. Layers are good as well, they can save your good work when you want to add something more above it.

I know that I should post step-by-step pictures how I drew the fur for better explanation, but I am too lazy for that AND I did not save the progress. So, this will have to do. I hope it's clearer how I paint the fur now

Hmm... that is something I have not really thought about... simply painting over the fur... or at least I did not think about doing it on a large scale for such a problem as a massive error.
