My half of a trade with my buddy Kilara X3! She drew Whitefire, and I drew Drej.

I really like Drej-san, and I wanted to capture the side of him I am always most inspired by--the part that hurts; the human side of the dark soul. Drej is cold and dark because of many factors, but I know this would have to be one of the strongest and most influencial. Everyone experiences heartbreak in their life, so maybe that's why I love to portray that character aspect with my own and otgher's characters. Everyone has felt pain, loss, hurt, and sadness--some more than others. Drej's love was killed because their love for each other was forbidden; his heart probably shriveled and hardened after his love's death.

I poked at his character for some time before I could come up with this, and it took even longer to think of a background. I almost didn't do one, but I think this serves well. The background portrays a symbol of his love's death, for I am not sure of her name or true appearance. Perhaps we'll never know for certain, but I used a cross grave to portray her death and Drej's mourning over it. The reality of Drej's tears is harsh and is the cooling basin for his hot heart, turning into cold rock like lava pouring into the water. His anger explodes from him as a result, leading to deaths of many. His tears glow like the stars in the background, maybe portraying them as light or Drej himself as a source of that light. He cries in pain and emptiness over her death, and inside, he dies a little, as well. I also used black feathers as symbols of Drej sort of floating over her grave, like he's guarding it in some form of fasion; perhaps guarding her memory or saying his last goodbyes.

I based much of this emotion off my own characters, for Kilara-chan has no pictures of Drej portraying his sadness or pain in this light, so I used a character I felt was very similar to Drej in this pain and loss. I decided to use Kraken, the creature with no hope of ever finding true love, and when he does find a form of it, it slips through his fingers in the form of blood he often causes to flow. So if much or part of this characterization is innacurate, I apologize. I had to work with the little information on Drej that I had available to me.

Drej is a very hurt character I think would be an interesting once to further explore. I am sad because I do not care much for this piece considering the character involved and will probably try at another, though this is the picture for Kilara's trade with me. I can only hope that I have captured a portion of Drej's inner self, the pain he masks with blood of others. Maybe one day that pain will seep through, for blood cannot cover a wound forever. Once day, he will have to face it, and maybe that pain will be his very undoing...
