I read about it in the game!! FO CEREAL!!!
You get these Ansem Report things and I got bored once so I started reading them and it was talking about how the first 6 worked in a science lad and Ienzo, who's the youngest, came up with the idea of doing all these tests with darkness to study the heartless and then they did this one experiment that turned them all into Nobodies so Xemnas, Xigbar, Xaldin, Vexen, Lexeaus, and Zexion came to be.
