[Notes: Guess who's back!?!? Going MIA is now sort of a norm, I guess. With apologies, let's talk about why it happened: the Hitmons. By Dex order, it was their turn to get variants and I'll be honest, I tried whatever… different fighting styles, different monsters… searched quite a lot of inspirations. Nothing felt quite reasonable with the Hitmons so I've finally come to the decision to leave it at this: there ain't no regional variants for the Hitmons in Alneo Region. The simple Pokélogical explanation is that these are Pokémon native to the Indigo Plateau, specifically the Johto Region. The only reason they ever appear in other regions is captive breeding which hasn't changed much to cause a significant variation since Tyrogue only evolve under training.
Moving over, our next line is the Lickitung. Lickitung is no doubt reptilian and despite Lickilicky being designed as an overgrown baby, I guess it too follows the same inspiration as its pre-evolved form. Putting reptile and Lickitung in one sentence, I immediately decided it was gonna be a Poison type variant. So, on with the show once again…]
.
In the world of competitive Pokémon battling, moves play the most vital role. It's just the matter of how you build your Pokémon's movepools to best suit your tactics in a battle. A Pokémon move can be anything from a massively destructive blast of elemental energy manifested as a beam to nothing much of a physical action like scratching and tackling. In all honesty, every Pokémon with wings learn "Fly" naturally, and every Pokémon that has usable jaws and teeth are able to use "Bite".
The same is the case with the almost signature-move of the Pokémon in discussion. Lick is a move that every Pokémon with a tongue can use… it isn't included in the manual for every one because for a multitude of Pokémon, it's just not that practical to focus on that.
.
However, it all changes with one Pokémon… because when it comes to the Lickitung family, the tongue is more or less an extra limb. The line has always received mixed responses from people all over the Pokémon world: some would find it cute, others would say it's gross, a good number would admit that it's quite a formidable companion in competitive battling, while a few degenerated minds would only find the Pokémon usable for… well, rather "inappropriate" purposes. Ironic is the fact that every one of the above has one thing or other to do with the Pokémon's capability to use its tongue like no other Pokémon.
.
One thing that trainers usually oversee with Lickitung line is their resistance to environmental adaptation. Lickitung are known to thrive in climates, from the hot tropics of Hoenn to the mild plateau of Indigo subcontinent, with little to less difference. The cold and rigid Sinnoh only saw the Pokémon grow up into a more stronger and sturdier form, and once Lickilicky was a known fact, the scientists soon learned that the evolution wasn't exclusive to Sinnoh… they just needed to follow a little specific route with the training.
.
Which is why when the Alnean variants were discovered, it pretty much took the entire world by surprise. The discovery of Alnean Lickitung is credited to a young Alolan toxicologist named Plumeria. As reported by the researcher in her papers and later evidenced by the specimen caught by life-risking trainers, the subspecies has strangely been able to retain its common counterpart's trait of stubbornness while adapting to its environment at the same time.
.
The toxic-tongue variant naturally doesn't look much different from the common ones and it is easy to mistake one as the other at the first glance. On closer look, however, it gets apparent as the Alnean variants has smaller details of distinction. Due to having a predatory lifestyle, the scales on this subspecies are more rough and gets longer and sharper around the Pokémon's tail to serve both as an armor and a whip.
.
Though, a person might not need to take a closer look to know the difference if they do something to make the Pokémon take offense. Known as in the community as the Potent Form of the variant, the offensive stance of the Pokémon has strong toxins secreting off special glands around its pharyngeal tube that causes its tongue to turn a violet shade as the toxins create a thick layer of fog around its collar. In this state, if an attacker gets close enough, it has an almost certainty to get poisoned by simply inhaling one breath of the toxic fog.
.
The subspecies almost equals its common brethren in terms of heavy stamina, but heavily surpasses when it comes to defenses, making this Pokémon an immovable tank in battles. One might argue that its fairly lower attack balance the allover stats, but as quoted by Plumeria herself, "These Pokémon don't have good attack stats because they don't need them. This Lickitung line rely heavily on poisoning the opponent and breaking them down from inside rather than deal damage on the front. Have the two variants battle and you'll realize that the common Lickitung or even Lickilicky is far outmatched just because of natural instinct… and that is quite fascinating!"
