Description "Snape looked no more than nine or ten years old, sallow, small, stringy. There was undisguised greed in his thin face as he watched the younger of the two girls swinging higher than her sister.
'Lily, don't do it!' shrieked the elder of the two.
But the girl had let go of the swing at the very height of its arc and flown into the air, quite literally flown, launched herself skywards with a great shout of laughter, and instead of crumpling on the playground asphalt, she soared, like a trapeze artist through the air, staying up far too long, landing far too lightly.
'Mummy told you not to!'
Petunia stopped her swing by dragging the heels of her sandals on the ground, making a crunching, grinding sound, then leapt up, hands on hips.
'Mummy said you weren't allowed, Lily!'
'But I'm fine,' said Lily, still giggling. 'Tuney, look at this, watch what I can do.'
Petunia glanced around. The playground was deserted apart from themselves and, though the girls did not know it, Snape. Lily had picked up a fallen flower from the bush behind which Snape lurked. Petunia advanced, evidently torn between curiosity and disapproval. Lily waited until Petunia was near enough to have a clear view, then held out her palm. The flower sat there, opening and closing its petals, like some bizarre, many lipped oyster.
'Stop it!' shrieked Petunia.
'Its not hurting you,' said Lily, but she closed her hand on the blossom and threw it back to the ground.
'It's not right,' said Petunia, but her eyes had followed the flowers flight to the ground and lingered upon it. 'How do you do it?' she added, and there was a definite longing in her voice.
'It's obvious, isn't it?' Snape could no longer contain himself, but had jumped out from behind the bushes. Petunia shrieked and ran backwards towards the swings, but Lily, though clearly startled, remained where she was. Snape seemed to regret his appearance. A dull flush of colour mounted the sallow cheeks as he looked at Lily."

This is very very nice.
It is sad what the darkness of humanity will do to people. Snape being the victim of domestic abuse and constant harassment by the resident a-hole James (Which are similar backgrounds of serial killers and spree shooters). Petunia being neglected and treated as the second rate sibling and being constantly told that she is not as important as her sister. Being neglected is the ULTIMATE worst thing you can do to a child as they do not form loving relationships appropriately.

How beautiful! You've really made these girls look bewitching, even - maybe especially - Petunia ... they both are beautiful creatures and I think you captured the childhood loveliness we never get to see in Petunia. Lily looks alive with magic. Gorgeous.

That and parental favoritism and Snape rubbing it in, and how apathetic the magic community is against non magic users, also James being an absolute ass furthering the divide during that dinner. No one was nice to Petunia until dumb Vernon. She probably only married him because he actually treated her special. Something everyone else in her life denied her.

Thanks a lot! I find that I get to a point where I can't work on anything else because my ideas are bursting to get out onto the page and must be visualised. This year though I've put time aside to work on my drawing to make sure that I improve my skills before I am in the field : ) Thanks again for the compliment!

I don't understand this hatred on Petunia.
How would YOU react, if you've found that your sister is a witch and you're not?
No offense but really. Her reaction was humanly.
Even though you're right at one thing - she shouldn't have raise Harry the way she did.
But Harry also had magical powers, I think this is what made Petunia to treat him the way she did. She always saw Lily in him.

Taiya001 In reply to Aikane-senpai [2019-11-14 15:39:50 +0000 UTC]

I agree. She had every reason to be like that as a kid. I feel Vernon was a bad influence on her behavior too. I heard a theory that the Dursley's wanted to drain the magic from Harry to allow him to be safe in the normal world. That they were scared they would see Harry die and just did not handle it right.

Yeah, I could probably go on for a long time... but I won't. hahahaha
I agree- besides the Jane Austen films they've done, this series is the most faithful to the books.
I love Twilight, but I was pretty disappointed in the movies (New Moon was the closest to the book), so I'm glad they did so much better with Harry Potter
