Description Originally I was going to just show the colored picture on the right but I felt like the sketch was crucial to showing how the crown was supposed to work. No in-universe description this time around because, seriously-how hard is it going to be to say that Lilith got herself a new look? About all that's changed now is her outfit and how she wears her hair up front.

So, yeah, one of my first really big redesigns (I think)! I realized that Lilith's personality, design and overall feel sort of were at odds with her original costume, and since Sel had bangs that were now too similar to Lilith's, I needed to give her something of a new look. Taking inspiration from sources like magical girls (and a few magical girl villainesses) and some of Lilith's original inspirations such as Shanoa of Order of Ecclesia, I decided she needed a look that more strongly suggested her being a sort of dark DAMSEL while looking like something someone who is usually as withdrawn or shy (but well-adjusted) as her might wear. The long, generous cuts down the front and back were still necessary to my mind since Lilith, being a DAMSEL, needs to fly and get around and having her dress be more like a coat so she can stick her feet out, land and move around a lot would be kind of a necessity. The crown is now closer to the original idea I had for it: this thing that swooped out and back and looked more like a set of horns rather than looking like the Statue of Liberty spikes/crown. As you can see in the side view sketch the idea is that it stays on by sitting on her hair and clipping to the collar extensions that stick to her cheeks, so not only does it stay on that way but it also gives the flap things something to be held up with.

I gave her a removable Project MAIDEN patch that clips to that one section of her dress so she looks more like she's part of the Project and gave her a sort of one-piece body thing to wear so I could still have gaps in the dress and yet she wouldn't look like she was showing off a lot of cleavage for no good reason compared to her character, and since her forehead symbol was now really hard to see since more of her hair fell in front of her face I moved it to the markings on her ankles and wrists, where they sit marking these cufflike things she now has on them. The boots haven't changed, neither have the detached sleeves/wedding gloves: they were alright the first time around.

As for the dress itself, I simply thought about dark themes in design and the mental image of a ribcage came to mind. Originally the rib pattern was going to be a second layer over the dress but became this set of belts that was supposed to link to this sort of spinal/dorsal belt and buckle arrrangement running down the back of her dress. The golden tips were actually a bit of a last-minute addition: I felt they looked a little too drab and empty without something to break it up and decorate it further. I actually don't quite know how they'd stay on then: probably something to do with being sewn in or having some internal reinforcement to them that keeps them curved in that position and keeps the skirt from flying around in the wind. It's cushioned and given volume with those alternating layers of soft, thin, red and white fabric.

Well...that's about all I can say on the matter, nothing else has changed. Lilith is still who she was before, still relies a lot on electronic attack to protect herself from prying eyes and is still the shy, reserved counterpart to Galatea, her similar-looking but vivacious friend.

Also, I probably need more practice on side profiles but I find that front views or 3/4 views are much better for articulating what a character looks like. Finally I'm quite surprised I couldn't think of a good pose for her and just defaulted to something as simple as her just standing there: this wasn't any limitation on my part but more a problem brought about by Lilith's personality. She's not one to do big, bold, wide movements: she's far more reserved and gentle.

Since the hair and clothes are the eaxct same shade of black, consider using white lines to separate them. Here it could be a bit hard to figure out what is the body and what is the hair.

Thank you, I have been wondering about how to do that with the tools at my disposal. I've only really got inking pens and markers that bleed like I've shot them all twice, and my attempts to go digital still scare me away from using it. Will I have to bend at some point or are there any tricks I can get away with using what I have at the moment?

Well, if you won't go digital, seems white ink would be the only way. The other option is to plan a white space ahead of coloring.

Very neat. Love the dark theme and buckle arrangement.

I would've shown a rear view to show how they all fit together but I only really thought of how after I finished drawing and inking and had no more real room left.

Gotta love the thought process sometimes, huh?
