the face is actually distorted and ew (I see the uneveness, please please please don't point that part out ^^'
. But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do critique on the style and coloring. I'm working on changing it, so anyone watching will probably see a gradual change in the next few months or so. So yeah. Enjoy!Copics on 90 lb watercolor paper

I think over all the compisition is good but it even though i know the style tends to use blocks of colors and all i think it would look better if you brought more of the greens from the back round on to her clothes becuase it would tie her more to the backround.

Actually you half right about both. I used copic markers on 90lb watercolor paper. using markers on watercolor paper can make it look like "solid" watercolors, if that makes sense...

tell me more about those markers! are they special in the way you can more easily make it smooth or something? and it doesnt smudge or bleed(those black lines)? and what are the white dots made of?
Aren't they really expensive? I saw a box at Anime North for like $200+ x_x; and you dare to use sooo much to cover the whole paper o_o;;;; is there a secret store somewhere where you get them for cheap?

They're special~
They have brush tips on the end, but they're markers. They blend REALLY well and it's almost impossible for them to bleed through colors. They almost never smudge or bleed unless you color directly over ink that hasn't dried yet.
And yeah, they're extremely expensive. When I went to get them - a set of 74 + 4 extras, and an airbrush - it cost over $400. They're $5 individually. It took forever to save up for them, but they're worth the price.

Yeah, your stuff is getting more and more...mature? UGH. I dunno if thats the right word. It's always been pretty when I started looking at it, but there's a definate difference (oh and, GOD GOD GOD, do I love your new ICO picture).
That's what I'm trying to do too because right now my crap looks like kiddy stuff out of a shoujo manga an 8-year-old would read. Lol. I'm trying to get my stuff more of a Chitose Maki style (AWESOME, AWESOME ARTIST, GO LOOK AT HER STUFF LIEK NAOW). <3'

Like, it's not detailed to the point where it would make the character sink into the background. Since the picture is supposed to focus on the character XD It gives it a nice sense of well...balance!

Chitose Maki's work is so PRETTY and shiny. *o* Without looking too childish too, which is kind of what I want to do with my stuff. Man 2/3 years ago? ...I didn't even know her art existed until about half a year ago. Out of curiosity, do you know if she's worked on anything else besides Strawberry Panic?

Actually, there's a difference between saying "yanno, your art looks exactly like another artist whose art I totally despise" and giving actual critique.
See, critique is commenting on the techniques and overall look of a piece, not comparing it to other works and saying you just don't like the way it's drawn PERIOD. Because in that case, you're obviously not going to like it at all, no matter how well the artist executed what they were trying to accomplish. Fucking COMMON SENSE. Use it.
I've had people say things essentially like "the head way too huge, the hands look like feet, and you seriously need to work on anatomy for the next couple years". I like that. I love that. Because that lets me know what I can improve. And that one part where you said I should look into the anatomy of facial structure would've been nice and stuff. If you hadn't started it off with those couple asinine comments beforehand.

And I apologize if my response sounded kind of dickheaded (because it was). Mainly because while there's a lot of this kind of art being posted, that also results is tons of people clicking on it just to bash the hell out of the piece because it looks too much like "so-and-so's" art. I see it all the time and it's not fair to the any of the artists recieving those kind of comments. I've been fed up with seeing so much of that asshattery lately because it's seriously been causing the friendly community-ness of DA to deteriorate more and more (then again, our discussion probably didn't help that).

Cuteness will only get you as far as a bunch of "OMG KAWAAIII DESUDESU @W@" tards. I suggest looking into facial anatomy to get the eye to nose to mouth proportions correct.

I usually focus a lot more on anatomy, design, and composition (those are my strong points, especially anatomy ^^), but for this I was mostly trying out a couple different things so I didn't feel that was important. Though I was hoping to get some feedback on the style in particular, and even though you apparently can't stand my art, thanks for the feedback anyway. <3
