I read your newest journal entry and I actually relate so hard to that. I'm not a parent and that's a struggle I can't relate to (congrats on your son and so much power to you for being a single mama)

Sometimes I look at my art and I actually get enraged that a few years ago I wasn't doing the studies that I do now. Just gotta keep your passion in front of you and strive to be better.
I'm glad I could make you feel better girl. This isn't a dig to anybody but at least when I was more involved in the SM community here, everyone had these beautiful concepts and was able to show them but not very many had the skill or desire to take their art further. I felt that set you apart because your concepts were beautiful and you were able to draw well and I could see you were trying hard even then!

I really get where you're coming from! I look at my old art and really wonder where my head was at. I really had no clue, literally NO clue what I was doing. I never studied anatomy, I never studied the fundamentals etc. I never studied other artists because I thought that was cheating. I may have imitated a popular style, but it never panned out to anything. I was walking blind. You're right, you have to keep moving even when inspiration evades you, even when it gets really hard.
Thank you so much for that second paragraph. Holy crap. I worked really hard on my characters. I was going to work on their fanfiction today. Hopefully you get to read, and hopefully, it ends up not too terrible.

I think it's so important to keep all those old drawings and even re-do them every once in a while, especially when you get into a negative headspace. It's so assuring when you see the improvement right before my eyes and you've already improved so much since you were last active as well. I actually think we kind of ghosted DA around the same time tbh.
Girl I did the same thing! For years I completely copied Naoko Takeuchi's style and lowkey butchered it. When I grew out of it I kind of became snobby about artists who use reference and who do studies on the masters. Now I realize how important they are and how far back not doing those studies has set me and so many others.
You're very welcome As it goes up I'll try to keep reading it, I can't imagine the amounts of character development they've been through.
Thank you so very much I just use plain old photoshop elements, sometimes Paint Tool Sai for the sketching because it's tools are more user-friendly and ergonomic in regards to flipping and spinning the image, so it's easier for me to get symmetry
