Description 2015

153x83x35cm

Eighth in the "Fractures" series.

Everytime I finish a piece in this series, one of the many grievances in my life is somehow erased, stored, put on display for later reflection if need be. For me, art truly is therapy. Fortunately humans are a bunch of highly faulty, deeply misguided beings! I will most likely never run out of ideas to make more!

This piece was heavily influenced by the new album "Polaris" by Tesseract (from which I borrowed the title). I must have listened through it by at least 50 times as this piece took me 71.5 hours from start to finish. It is very rare for any music not to go stale with that many spins! Such an awesome album!

No video for this one, a decision which I was regretting quite early on as things got a bit interesting at times. Oh well.

more of parallelity and angularity, less of biology, very neat :3
- this series gives a feel of a journey through a world of integral and inorganic constructions, heavily inspired by the deep of your mind (at least i think :D) - i'm really curious how this world evolves itself

The neatness gives me much satisfaction! Took me a while to get the hovering things all straight and aligned, but now it's good. I used to make detailed drawings of the more geometric ones in this series just to be able to mess around with the proportions and get it right, but haven't in a while. I found that I really didn't adjust it very much at all. Now, when I have a vague idea about what I want to make, I just pick some materials and see how it goes. Much more fun this way! Thank you very much for your continued support, Atis!Β

sounds like a great planning!.....good luck!....i was thinking, in general are you making a small model and then make it big scale, or you work from scratch on a big scale?

Ahjotuli In reply to jon-bibire [2015-11-22 16:08:59 +0000 UTC]

No models, I just dive in! I have these "piles" of various materials that I have saved. People around me know that I'm an artist who likes to use all kinds of stuff so they often offer them for free! (my materials are usually trash to other people) For example, today I started two new ones. I went through my "piles", some ideas popped into my head, got very excited and lost track of time! I used to make detailed drawings of the more geometric bits, but not anymore. Not necessary.

I feel you. Appreciated details. The way you assembly all components together, without a pre-plan, that's spontaneity at its first hand. You're listening to your instinct, and you feel the power of creativity. That is something!
And, yes, super thing to have people bringing free stuff to you....these are good people, and they recognized in you the artist side that they don't have.
Talking about sketches and notes, i write down any new idea, and save it until i have time to use it. I have a booklet full of notes, with dates, interesting to look back, sometimes combining 2-3 ideas for a cool new work......just saying, any idea need to be saved, you know how it is, we forget things, we are busy, our mind is all over the place......now, back to my desk, more experiments with colors.......this is addictive.............OK, looking fwd to see more interesting things made by your magic hands!

Thanks again! I used to do some sketching of my ideas and sometimes still do, but very rarely. I recognize the need for notes, but I really suck at drawing... It's always just some basic shapes or patterns which is still kinda useful I guess. These days I rely much more on written notes. I try to describe the idea eloquently and as detailed as possible which seems to work a bit better for me. Might be a bit weird to read for someone else though! Β

Wow, I feel obsessed; gorgeous work of art and glorious creation using diverse materials, combining strong with floating structuring - I am tongue tide, looking for the music I found some links, Β but most of them are not accessible in Germany...Β

Thank you so much, Helmut! This is definitely the direction where I want to be heading. I feel like I'm slowly finding my own voice. Other than the sheer amount of labour required, these things come to life quite effortlessly!

The album is all over youtube to sample for free, but I've heard that Germany blocks a lot of them (and many others) for some reason.

To be honest, I'm kinda surprised that you enjoyed it so much. Maybe I shouldn't be because I have no idea what kind of music you listen to! So, what are some your favourites?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

berlinhelmut In reply to Ahjotuli [2015-11-23 08:22:59 +0000 UTC]

depends on my mood... this mix of heavy metal with some soft parts reminded me on Pink Floyd, who is one of favorite (from the past...), apart from "hard" ones periods of my mood are asking for soft ... happy exposure to sonic waves like Planxty, Santana, Branduardi... Β

I also enjoy Pink Floyd from time to time. But like you said, the music of choice depends very much on the mood.Β

You are fucking legendary man. I like that it has sort of earth textures while also featuring some "higher being" sort of technology..Β

Ahjotuli In reply to PolyBond [2015-11-21 09:07:17 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for that! I'm so glad you like this kind of juxtaposition as I'm very fond of it myself. There is something very consoling about futuristic, machine-like shapes that are slowly decaying in the clutches of time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PolyBond In reply to Ahjotuli [2015-11-21 16:33:36 +0000 UTC]

The sort of "story line" it produces for me, is like a time in the very distant past that was only inhabited by small organisms, but yet this technology (which is still yet past our human technology) resided embedded in the earth. Or maybe it IS the future (where humanity is practically extinct), and these technologies have resided on earth for so many years that they are decaying in the crust of the earth (maybe with a secret purpose they still have some functionality, but the idea of even these things to behold being dead kind of creates an even more lonely, solitude, feeling.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ahjotuli In reply to PolyBond [2015-11-22 08:37:49 +0000 UTC]

Yes! I'm so glad you shared your interpretation! I myself have imagined very similar things and concepts with this series. Sort of, 'beyond the distant future' where the shiny, efficient utopia has come to an abrupt end and nature is slowly taking over again.
