The green dragon crouched down, and folded in his great wings. With all of his might he launched off from the baked ground with his powerful legs. With an immense leap, he launched himself skyward. Blazing like an arrow loosed from an archer’s bow the dragon soared into the air. The dragon swept his new leathery wings down, catching his first air current high above the deserted battlefield. Wind ripped across the membranes in his wings, and down his mane, from head to tail.

Skybound he saw the devastation from the siege, bodies strewn upon the earth and dark stains polluting fresh streams. All of this over a dispute in the succession. The rebels had almost been stopped, he remembered, but they refused to submit to the will of people. They killed the rightful claimant and then fled into the castle. The siege was an attempt to dislodge them, but they used wicked magic and unknown arts to stop the king’s army.

Carnage was all that remained of it. His nostrils smoked and his throat burned, Judgement had already been passed in his eyes, and now he circled closer to the castle, the fire from within was leaking out of his mouth and nose, when the beast moved into range of the castle. Archers had spotted him at last, but their arrows would be nothing, as their doom loomed above.
