Description

won the second place in my Mini Contest!
This is her prize, a picture based on her contest entry.

Here is her contest entry:

Night had fallen and the cool air was telling of a coming storm. Nix hated water more than anything. Quickly she made her way to the glowing lava pool she called a home in the wintery season and just as her flamed feet dripped into the burning liquid, the first drops of the promise storm brushed against her body.

Absolutely captivating.
I really love how you did the lava, you can just feel it bubbling with heat. I really like the shape of her head, so kind looking.^^

Thank you very much!

I am happy to hear that you like the lava, this was very first time when I drew it so I had no idea what I was doing.

Despite kind look I tried to make her expression look a bit annoyed (because of rain), not sure if it shows tho. ^^

Nice! But won't her necklace burn off when she ducks deeper into the lava? ?_?

Agaave In reply to C-Hillman [2010-10-08 04:19:06 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

I was thinking about the same (she also has fiery mane) but then I thought the fabric must be something not-so-flammable. Or then it is just magic.

Thanks for asking!
Nothing really interesting, just lots of work. Too little time to do art.

How are you doing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

C-Hillman In reply to Agaave [2010-10-13 20:11:03 +0000 UTC]

Mad at my old boss's refusal to just pay me what he owes me, otherwise okay.
I'm nearly done illustrating the storybook I wrote and I'm gradually improving with Photoshop CS3 in the process. I only have 2 more pages to go!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Agaave In reply to C-Hillman [2010-10-14 17:24:41 +0000 UTC]

What, that sucks! How can he not pay to you? Isn't that illegal!

Illustrating a storybook sounds interesting thing to do! Are you going to post those illustrations here in dA? I hope so!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

C-Hillman In reply to Agaave [2010-10-14 17:34:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it is illegal, I've told him the next time he hears from me it will be through a lawyer.

As for the storybook, I finished it last night, it is posted as "Ook".

Cloudrunner64 In reply to Agaave [2010-10-08 23:29:28 +0000 UTC]

How does it work? just out of curiosity...I have watercolor pencils and such, but I really have no idea how to work watercolors

It would be like a lava lamp. Only better!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Agaave In reply to Cloudrunner64 [2010-10-09 04:58:35 +0000 UTC]

I am not good with watercolors either, I do only backgrounds with them. But I would love to learn more the!

In this picture I just painted the sky purple (few different hues) and then dropped some table salt on the paint when it was still wet. After paint had dried I removed salt. Salt somehow absorbs water and creates crystal-like patterns.

Cloudrunner64 In reply to Agaave [2010-10-10 00:28:17 +0000 UTC]

Hehe. Do you use watercolor pencils, or paintpaint? I'm sure there's a technical term for that.

That sounds neat...I'll have to try and remember it for when I do dig out my watercolor stuff. I like playing with new things like that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Agaave In reply to Cloudrunner64 [2010-10-10 04:38:54 +0000 UTC]

I used "paintpaint" for sky and rocks. Everything else is colored pencils + some white gel pen. I do use watercolor pencils for coloring tho but I use them as regular pencils, so no water added on pencil parts. I hope this explanation made any sense!

I really recommend to go and try! It is fun and easy way to make nice looking backgrounds. ^^

Cloudrunner64 In reply to Agaave [2010-10-10 22:59:53 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I see what you did there with the gel pen Awesome, gel pens are my favorite types of pens. It made perfect sense, thank you!

I'll have to let you know when I get around to doing it Now I just have to figure out a way to do it on Photoshop.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Agaave In reply to Cloudrunner64 [2010-10-11 15:46:28 +0000 UTC]

I have just found fun of gel pens. Must buy more colors!

I would love to see what you come up with! Either in traditional way of with Photoshop! ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cloudrunner64 In reply to Agaave [2010-10-11 22:30:44 +0000 UTC]

Those used to be the only pens I would write with Until teachers started saying "No sparkly glittery awesome pens because they sparkle and we can't read them." I think...I have at least one picture that I did completely with sparkly gel pen xD

I'll have to link you if it ever happens!
