Description I drew this lineart at the beginning of this year for a December Dragon (for my Month Dragon series ) but I didn't like the outcome so never colored it. But now I noticed that this lineart was good for my marker practices so I decided to color it. I am happy how the dragon looks but I was too lazy to add a background.

Promarkers + Faber-Castell watercolor pencils

PS. Bah, didn't notice until after submitting this picture that my scanner made its tricks again: the eye of the dragon should be green and not yellow. I don't know what my scanner has against green color... Other colors in this picture look quite same as in real life. Well, I don't bother scanning this again so let the eye be yellow then.

Looks like a dragon with feathery wings... which is great cause you don't see that too often.

Thank you!

Yeah, I love feathery wings too but for some reason it seems more natural to draw bat like wings for dragon. If I can use word natural when speaking about fantasy creatures.

Adreos In reply to Agaave [2010-08-21 03:10:57 +0000 UTC]

I believe the leathery wings look more natural as dragons are often depicted as giant reptiles, similar to lizards.

and yes you can use the world natural. In this context it just means whatever feels rice.

Well..this is Mongo: [link] ...that's the only picture of him I've put up here But anyway, he's that golden cream color all over, with rough, longish fur...covering all 20lbs of his granduer If you stretch him out, he's about 3-4ft long (which, I've never measured that, and now I'm curious ). So this makes me think of what he'd look like in dragon form!

I think I couldn't finish this lineart earlier because I didn't find out good colors for it - now gold seems only possible option. ^^

I just love the dragon's design!
From my experience I can tell that scanners usually like to "kill" a certain color in the drawings. Mine hates blue with a passion

Agaave In reply to Seleylone [2010-06-20 07:08:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!

I wonder how scanners pick the colors they hate... mine handles blues quite well but green is its archenemy. Oh well, I shouldn't blame my scanner so much; at least it is working and scanning something!

What?! How could you not like this lineart! It's beautiful - the design of the dragon, the pose, everything! Anyway, I love it - the color is beautiful and the fur and wing details are gorgeous! I adore the prancing pose, too. AWESOME!

Agaave In reply to Ember-Eyes [2010-06-20 07:02:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!

The lineart just didn't feel right for December Dragon back then; maybe wintry colors didn't fit for this design in my eyes... But now I like it as golden so maybe just colors were bugging me.

Ember-Eyes In reply to Agaave [2010-06-22 03:24:48 +0000 UTC]

Well I'm glad you found something to do with it. ^^ It would have been a shame to just let it sit and collect dust. It's such a pretty design.

Agaave In reply to Ember-Eyes [2010-06-25 04:18:51 +0000 UTC]

I am happy too... I'd hate to see hard work wasted. When I started to practice using my markers I was surprised how many unfinished but inked pictures I found from my collections! I usually abandon designs I don't like already at sketching phase. Seems that I have had some kind of huge self-critical (or indecisive) period at the beginning of this year.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ember-Eyes In reply to Agaave [2010-06-29 03:54:23 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, well at least you're finding uses for them now, right? I recently went through some of my old sketches and inks and threw a lot of them away. They were so bad they weren't really worth keeping or doing anything with...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Agaave In reply to Ember-Eyes [2010-06-30 15:30:20 +0000 UTC]

Haha, that's true!

What you just descriped happens usually to me also: I rather start to hate my old drawings than like them... Does this mean that my drawing skills are now regressing because I have started to see something worth coloring that I have earlier abandon?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ember-Eyes In reply to Agaave [2010-07-01 02:58:04 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Maybe sometimes it just takes us longer to realize what to do with some artwork? I take a lot of my older drawings and "redraw" them if I still like them, especially if they're really ancient and my skills have somewhat improved from the time I drew it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Agaave In reply to Ember-Eyes [2010-07-02 15:50:43 +0000 UTC]

I rarely redraw my old works... it would be interesting tho!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ember-Eyes In reply to Agaave [2010-07-03 01:30:34 +0000 UTC]

You should try it! I usually only redraw old work if I like the design or the pose of whatever it was I drew. Then once I have it redrawn, I get to throw the old, bad stuff away!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Agaave In reply to Ember-Eyes [2010-07-03 10:14:03 +0000 UTC]

Clever - that way you can save the idea or pose etc. but you don't have to look the picture itself you don't like anymore.

I so much like the way how complex but so beautifully drawn your dragons are, the details on the wings are too cool and the horns are way to wicked. Your marker works are really starting to be quite an eye candy. (no need for the background).^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Agaave In reply to almaticani [2010-06-20 06:59:32 +0000 UTC]

Aww, thank you so much!

For some reason I think the picture is unfinished if there isn't background but I am often too lazy to draw one or then I am afraid that I ruin the picture if I try add something. So it is good to hear that there isn't necessary need for a background. ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

almaticani In reply to Agaave [2010-06-20 20:10:44 +0000 UTC]

most welcome.

I often dread from backgrounds, specially if they start to be too complicated and then I get a headache and go insane over it, or intentionally leave the painting and finish it once I get bored.

I like the colourwork on this dragon!

Agaave In reply to RandomClaire-chan [2010-06-20 06:54:37 +0000 UTC]

Haha, the eye color isn't that big deal but I just wanted to point it out.
I always blame my scanner for changing colors so now you can see how much it actually can change them - from one color to another.

Thank you! ^^
