so the dragons are acting like hummingbirds, right, and was it your intent to put a sign in the feather on the side, inbetween the serpents body, and the outside feather?

For the feather - the sign is supposed to be sort of an eye-like symbol - maybe as an attention getter as to where the dragons are coming from. I don't think there are any other really 'hidden' symbols in this particular picture, at least none that I didn't explain in the description. As for other pictures that have intentional images in them: The butterflies in Karyotype have a couple kanji hidden in them, Eye of Horus has the vectors from nasa's/voyager's gold disk (actually, so does Aion), 4and20 has the word 'life' in american sign language, and encripted text (but that's explained in the description) and the Scorpion fanart (god help us all), has the kanji for disaster. I have some symbols in other pictures too, but they aren't really disguised in any way.
The symbols in Azathoth are just very loosely based (as is the whole picture) on the descriptions in the writings of HPLovecraft (and the names in the book are all taken from different stories as well, except of course for my signature) - they aren't intended to directly refer to symbols accepted by any group, so they really weren't intended to mean anything. I do like putting some 'hidden' things in my pictures - so I'm glad that you asked about the feather. Usually, if it's something obscure, I try to explain it, because there are some things that I want people to notice, and I'm afraid no one would notice them if I didn't say they were there. Smaller things I sometimes don't bother to mention though, so it's nice when people pick things out or ask about them

I find mythology fascinating - I guess it's just much more interesting to me than plain history, and also very meaningful. Although - stories don't have to be 3000+ years old for them to be meaningful or have some kind of spiritual merit. I'm a fan of many modern myths too (Star Wars or the Cthulhu Mythos can be just as good in that respect as The Epic of Gilgamesh or the Odyssey - I think it's all really in how each person looks at the stories themselves). I'm not sure if I have a favorite myth though.

What I don't understand, is why an artist of such skill would choose to have a silly anime avatar, instead of showing off their artistic prowess. An exercise in humility perhaps?

I am eventually going to change my avatar to something else (I just haven't decided what yet). I do like the character, but you right about it sending a really wrong impression about what (for the most part) is in my gallery.

Mind you, I can talk! My most popular deviation is a black and white ink illustration, and I'm using this cute little avatar!

Okay -as suggested, I uploaded a bigger pic of this one (it's hard enough to tell what's going on in a large pic, nevermind when it's shrunk down). I think it helps with the details somewhat.
