Actually there was! It was a reference picture from an old school painting where the horse and the monkey were real animals, but I don't have an online version of it to link to at the moment. If I can hunt one down I'll certainly post it.

Found out the name of the painting. It's The Nightmare by Henry Fuseli, it's an 1781 oil painting.
