Description Actually a Christmas Secret Santa gift art, it's a Steampunk themed piece featuring some rather "intimate" girls with guitars. Not much else to say. Giant flying contraptions are cool. Steampunk is cool. Gears are cool. Girls are cool. Guitars are cool. Girls with guitars are cool.

Um...Cool.

Hi There,

I Was hoping they would pair me with photographers as I am a photographer so my Critiquing on a drawing will be somewhat lacking. I apologize for this.

Firstly, the lights, I know the colour scheme overall is rather pastely however I still feel the lights are neither shiny enough nor do I feel their is enough Brightness in them. On that topic the platform they are standing on could use a slight bit of work to look more metallic(I'm assuming its metal?)

As for the two girls themselves, My two favourite parts of this picture are the guitars, and the legs. I don't think I've ever spent so much time looking at legs from an anatomical standpoint to ensure that they are anatomically correct. And what I found is that despite the very very complex cris-crossing you did nail the anotomy. The same for the guitars, I had a hard time figuring out which base was to what string section, at first I screwed it up and thought "The guitar shouldn't look like that" then I realized it was the guitar heading to the back)

On that note, the detail on the guitars is amazing. Ezpecially on the most visible one(black)

And that's all I have to say. Sorry for the delay as well

Thank you very much for taking so much time, as I know it was difficult, you not getting paired with other photographers. I know it helps to have many different types of opinions, but you'd think they'd at least put you with ONE other photography artist.

Yeah, as I look, you're right, the lights could be a bit stronger, as well as the reflections on the metal. And I'm glad the anatomy and guitars came out so well to you! Thanks again for your close analysis!

I think I'm the only photography artist participating

Ha ha, maybe so. I'm sure some of the classes may be difficult to find a photographic approach, but not impossible. I think it's good that you're participating. Maybe they'll eventually cover aspects that would apply to photography directly too, as I know the classes I took in photography helped my art, and I'm sure everyone could benefit.

Well, good luck with that though. XD

hey, I'm in your critiquing group for the DAcademy

Overall I like the composition, and there are some interesting ideas, but it is somewhat hard to tell what everything is. There are patches with lots of dark objects, and objects with lots of light objects, and they kind of meld into each other. It took me a few seconds to figure out where the purple-haired woman's right shin went (figured it out after i found the toe of her shoe.) It can definitely be a stylistic touch to make parts or object disappear into each other, but I felt this piece came out a little more confusing that necessary. Adjust the contrast between objects a little and I think it will look great.

Greetings,

Whether these groups are permanent or for the time being, I hope we will learn a lot together.

The girl on the left wears some white clothes that is hard to interpret the material. I looks soft, but also rigid. I would suggest some form of material for it. looks like a well clothed cast, because of how the vest arcs around the the right breast. It also appears the girl is riding the thigh of the right girl's leg.

The center of the piece is quite jumbled. The vectors are misleading. The Right girl's guitar disappears in the in the gap.

I would like to say that the right girl's head may be adjusted... but I have no knowledge to support the claim. It is only my eyes.

I hope you feel proud of this piece. The coloring, shading, and lighting are truly impressive. The Right girls left hand is well done, because it shows a grip and is shaded well. The background is exquisite.

Well done! Thank you for your time.

Thanks for the critique. The same on groups, I hope so as well!

Yeah, while it may not have been detailed well enough to fully know, the girl on the left's material is actually lace. It's a little harder to tell with the ruffle on her shoulders.

And as for the girl riding the other girl's leg, actually she is. I probably should have flushed out my description more before the critique. As I mentioned in my description, this was a Christmas secret Santa piece, and the person I was drawing for listed 3 interests as "ideas" for a piece for him. He listed Steampunk, Girls with guitars, and yuri. I actually just chose to in some way combine all three. I obviously chose not to go the full yuri (lesbian) route, but instead took a more good-natured, intimate/friend/more natural approach.

But yeah, I think my pose made the characters too jumbled like you said, and I really didn't account for the guitars properly.

Thanks for the critique!

Hi,

Iā€™m part of group 12 on the DAcademy assignment list. Hope what I say helps.

I love what they are wearing so awesome and the shading is wonderful. The colors you used go together very nicely.

Though the way the guitars are placed baffles me. The one that the girl in the hats holding looks like it is going straight into the girl on the left and the one on the left her guitar looks like it is angles at the bottom but not at the top. So unless the guitar bends on the way up something is a bit off there.

The anatomy is also very good. Even though it took me a bit to figure out which leg belonged to whom. The girl on the rights face looks a little squished though, compared to the one on the left. They are lacking a bit in their expressions also. They look like they should be having more fun then they are showing.

Overall I really do like this picture. It has a great feeling to it.

Ah, thank you. I liked the critique. Yeah I agree on the guitars seeming off. While the girl on the right's guitar actually may just barely work, where it would fit, I have no idea how she'd be playing with it pressed against the other girl. >.< Also, I hadn't even noticed the angle of the guitar seems off on the left girl. I can see on the original sketch it didn't look that way, but I did some play on the lighting that REALLY makes it look that way. There's a lot to show I really messed up on some elements I failed to think through properly.

Thanks again.
