I like the accuracy of the pose and the way it conveys the horse's emotion. I'm not a horse owner, much as I'd love to be, but I spend enough time around horses to know that you've got the anatomy pretty much spot on - the neck is a tad thin, but it just give the horse a sort of Arabian look. The colour composition is brilliant, with the striking blue-purple against the flaxen and gold bold, and the burnt red war paint. So overall, love it! Your own unique style is evident, and I hope I can see more like this e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

Hi there. I saw your artwork displayed on the Deviant Art Community page and decided to head on over and give you work a critique. My name is UkuleleMoon and I am also a fellow equine artist. I feel that it is important to contribute to the community by not only submitting artwork but also by allowing one's self to truly study and appreciate the artwork that comes across our desktops in the form of fair and unbiased critiques. It is my ambition and my wish that you gain insight from this critique and further yourself as an artist. Here we go!

I gave you a high score in your vision. What I would suggest though is that you not only focus on your amazing artwork becoming real but also your descriptions. They are a special time for an artist to really share the journey they took while creating a piece. It's good that you mentioned what you did but it would be better to expand on how you came to envisioning this subject and what were your motives when you drew it.

I would like to congratulate you on the fact that your picture is indeed worth 1000 WORDS but also to keep in mind that you serve as an inspiration to others when you comment on how you came to this avenue in your life.

In a world flooded with Equine Art I think it's a little harder for our fellow Deviants to come up with new and original pieces of work. You present work and your previous pieces definitely speak for themselves in terms of originality. The phrase "War Horse" evokes many thoughts and emotions that could go many different directions. You've chosen a Native American horse, proud and defiant in the face of so much adversity.

Being an Equine Artist, I could sure learn a thing or two from your technique. Even though you did mention this is a Palomino... is this also an Arabian? How does that fit into the Native American theme ? The gentle slope of the head and the long, stylized neck remind me of such. What were your motivations in choosing the design of this particular subject? So many questions!

As for impact you have completed that category with flying colors. The palette is bold and saturated. The choice of turquoise accents adds to the dimension and depth of the work. I would suggest a little more shading on the rump and back leg just to give it more definition and a sense of completion. Overall I think you did well and I hope this has helped you in your journey as an amazing artist. I know you have definitely inspired me to become better.

Thank you for such a thoughtful critique This horse was a commissioned drawing and it represents the commissioner's real horse named Ginger (here is a link www.facebook.com/MyBuddyBling/… ) that she uses as a model for her equine jewelery and costumes. I took some artistic liberty as far as Ginger's color is concerned. I don't think she is an arabian and I think, except for the arch in the neck, that I didn't draw arabian features...
I hope this answered some of your questions

Wow! this is awesome!! i love horses myself very much.. And I dream to own one someday.... Anyway i love the mane how it flows... Like the wind is blowing upon her face (likely is omo) the blue eyes are very stunning and express a dramatic feel.. Witch you would want in a picture such as this.... The feathers are very stunning too.. The (Coin?) necklace is very highly detailed... The shading is also very realistic... The BG i love as well... I can see to the left way it looks like you drew some pine trees... And the right reminds me of a Waterfall also... I ain't got much left to say... But stunning....

Wow! This image brought so many images to mind, in a mad rush: my daughter-a horse lover and equine therapy counselor in training, the movie Hidalgo, and the War Horse. Even though it is obvious that it is a piece of art, it looks so realistic in every way as to the horse's muscle and skeletal build, as well as the proportion of one body part to another. I love the turquoise accents and the color you chose for the horse. Those colors give it a certain "southwest" look. I like the way the horse's stance says "I am strong", yet the eye says "I am gentle". With the somewhat solemn expression, it makes me wonder what's going on just outside the "frame". The most powerful feeling that comes to me is that it seems to embody the spirit of the Native American, still a strong and gentle people, despite what they have gone through.

So,first of all,the colors are amazing, the contrast between blue and orange is perfect.
The anatomy is with no mistakes and the shading is stunning.
The shading and pose make it look alive, rather then just a piece of art.The eyes show compassion, and also wiseness.
It is strange, usually you can find things that you don't like, mistakes, but here, because of the visual impact caused by using such a bright contrast,it is very appealing to the eyes and you just can't see a thing wrong.
The background looks really nice,in perfect harmony with the horses colors.
-Keep up the good work, because this is incredible and stunning!

Wonderful piece and brilliantly thought out.

I love the color choice you made. The use of complementary colors in this piece makes a bold statement! Also by moving the blue around front he jewelry, and into the eye supports the movement you've created. Movement is a strong quality in this piece. You've suggested it with the lines in the hair, neck, direction of the eyes, and even the position of the body.

This is a very dynamic piece, and you have brought focus onto the horse by making a non-objective background.

The middle part of the horse bothers me a little. Although you make some shifts in value, the orange in the one section appears very flat. This contradicts the rest of the piece where you have brought brilliant detail into focus. Other than that, the piece is rich in color, value, and has a strong use of detail where it is needed.

You've done a brilliant job creating lighting in this piece, as well as a glow in the shadow. Overall this is a wonderful piece, with brilliant impact and expertly used techniques. Well done!

War Ponies are incredible and this vision of them is more than stunning. Muscles are very good shaded and the pose shows how intelligent is this horse or a pony. And it shows how much power belongs to him/her. The red marks made it even more beautiful and the jewerly fits with color of it's eyes. It's neck is perfectly long and it's mane and tail look just...Incredible. Honestly, this looks like Arabian horse to me. And i'm a big fan of them. You are very good artist and you should draw horses more. That's what I think. Way to go!

This is absolutely amazing I like the colour scheme that you seem to have stuck with it really seems to keep a continuation within the artwork top effort. I think the background really suits the picture in not over complicating and/or overcrowding the picture. I like the exaggeration of the anatomy in the neck just a little it gives a sense of motion, energy and direction. Fantastic colour scheme and choice excellent execution in line and shape brilliant art work top effort well done you should be amazingly proud I could never do anything like this but study this type of art at school πŸ‘ and with my art specialist

From my perspective I find this piece stunning! It is beautifully done and the colors are warm and an eye catcher.

My personal look at it with details I say amazing, but what catches my eye the most is the narrowness of the neck. With the mane the way it is it slightly narrows the neck down a bit. It could be just me but on the far left where the hand print is that little dip catches my eye. Like a little tuck.

Other than that this is fantastic! I cannot compete yet with such amazing work but I will continue following your creations! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

Positives : The position and attitude of the horse is very expressive and well executed . The colours , with the blue highlights being complementary to the orange body , are engaging . The collar is an effective detail and the mane is nicely detailed and well depicted . The background gives a good neutrality on which to display the focal point .
Possible Improvements ( mentioned more for the sake of elongating my critique than anything else !) : Perhaps some small details in the background to give a sense of space , i.e nearness or distance ? Maybe a skyline to create a bit more visual variety ? The horse itself is very well depicted , but the colours are a little 'cartoony' .
All in all a very dramatic and satisfying composition ; good work !

I like this picture and the colors involved and the attention to detail in everything from the face to the hair. It looks realistic and like an art master piece it's truly beautiful!!!!! Great job on color combination as well!! I would actually love to see the full body effect as well. I would love to see the whole look of the tones of the body! It kind of has a tribal feel to me. Which is nice to see. Diversity is always welcome in the art world. I like how you also made the neck long and strong! Great job!

Your line are nicely flowing and the colors are bright and wonderfully eye catching. I love the flowing movement that allows the eye to easily follow the picture from the top right to the bottom right. It is well balanced and the space is used well. The varied neutral colored background allows the brighter colors of the horse to immediately catch the eye and directly allows the on looker to focus on the horse and to know that the horse the attention getter. The bright blue accessories to stand out and lead the eye to the more muted red tones and markings on the horse itself. Overall a very well done piece of art,

I think this piece of work is amazing. All the shading is in the right places, the muscles along the neck and on the face are in perfect position. The colours of the picture are incredible and make it stand out that much more. The war paint on it's head and neck are very affective and help put somewhat of a story behind it.
If i was to point out two things for maybe a little improvement, the ears could move forward a slight touch and maybe the neck of the horse could be a little bit shorter.
This picture is absolutely outstanding and i praise you for your work! Well done! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

The blue tones vibrate wonderfully with the orange tones and that's what I think makes this piece so wonderful! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/> e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="357" title="Heart"/>
And the background's simple, mixed shades work well with this piece, bringing out the main character and echoing where the lighting is coming from.
The only thing is the horse's neck looks a bit too slender when I take a longer look. I think it is because the blue lighting on the horse's neck (horse's left) recedes against the warm orange too much and melts into the hair/ mane. A bit of stronger definition of the neck to contrast against the hair and warm color of the neck and you are good to go! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

Then concept of a victorious war horse in such an confident stance. Great work! Keep it up! I'm not much of a painter but I still appreciate others work in that area though, it just looks amazing!

Wow this is really good. I love the detail put into it. I live on a farm and am around horses a lot, you did really good with the anatomy and structure of it. Props. The hair is super good i like how you used both highlights and lowlights. Another thing i really like is the shadows. You made them bluegreen. Most people just do shadows black or gray but they really aren't most of the time. Sometimes when i look at art people do very well to begin with but then they get lazy as they go and some parts look terrible. All of yours id great. You have real talent and a great eye. Hope to get critique requests from you again soon. Keep on drawing.

The use of complementary colors is excellent! The blue is very vibrant and the orange color of the horse just brings out the jewlery that it is wearing, it also is hard to take your eyes off this piece because of it. I also like the background, the colors in it are in harmony and give a peacful feel to the artwork. The only thing I would suggest is a little more detail on the jewlery perhaps? If you are trying to promote the jewelery then I say detail would be a good thing to incorpporate with this piece, other than that well done! I love it!

This is stunning.
As a lifelong horse owner myself, due to experience I know a lot about anatomy, and this is not only correct, but perfect in that sense.
The muscle shading on the face I find particularly accurate, as well as that on the neck.
I adore the stylised way in which you have drawn the mane and tail, and let's face it, who doesn't like war ponies?
If there was one thing in which to mention, maybe you should have considered setting the ears forward a touch.
Other than that, this is an awe-inspiring drawing with precise attention to detail and a beautiful, finished quality.
You must excuse my critique writing, as I am new to writing them and I am terribly sorry if I have offended you in any way.
