Description Has anyone ever had that awkward feeling when you almost done stuffing and realize you had the fabric direction wrong the whole time? >_<

What’s What
Spear Mint, an OC in progress for using my first ultra cuddle plush test. Check him out.

Pinkie Pie, technically my third ultra cuddle pattern test, but she came out so well I wanted to finish her, but no more painted eyes or cutiemarks for me! (I’ll post a better picture of her later with link.) Mane is reversible.

Bon-Bon the tall, err, almost.

Criticism Wanted and Other Thoughts
Pinkie Pie’s and Bon-Bon’s mane and tail pattern definitely need some work, but they were my first. I think I need to widen things up a bit to get a better look. But I intentionally tried something different for Bon-Bon’s tail than what I usually see others have done, but it’s still curved in too much like Pinkie’s tail.

Feedback is much appreciated!

quick question. I'm seeing the front view of your head and the eyes are actually looking forward! Eyes on mine are barely visable from the front. How did you do this? was it the way you stuffed it or does it have something to do with head pattern? look great by the way.

Thank you!
Well, it really depends on what angle you want the eyes to look best in. I'm still adjusting things a little (spreading the eyes a little farther apart for balanced frontal and profile viewing angles). But, having the head made of only two pieces without a center strip/gusset seems like it helps, but I’ve seen others look good from both angles also. Plus, it’s not like they don’t break the laws of physics in the show, so... it’s just a matter of what you want.

Ah. a two piece head pattern would explain it.

Did I mention that I keep showing this deviation to all of my friends and saying, "That's gonna be my pony!" before proceeding to spaz out with excitement?

Cuz I do do that.

Awesome. Well, I think the tail on yours will be the best tail yet given my experience with Pinkie’s and Bon-Bon’s. I now have a better understanding of how the fabric deforms around curves.

Much appreciated! Yeah, I wanted to paint them right, but at least with embroidery I don’t have to worry about stray paint.

Heheh, she needs to be headed. I actually finished her up last night, but I’ll probably take pictures at another time.

Thank you!~

You're doing great job so far. The more you sew the more you'll improve. And I see that you are a guy...

You're a guy that sews! That's so cool. I don't see many men sewing these days. Totally awesome.

Thank you! And I agree, improvement does come with experience.
And yup, a guy who started sewing 2.5 months ago. And I use my mom’s 30-year old Nelco La Belle XONIC sewing machine too! I think that same needle has been on there for at least 20 years.

Also, ultra cuddle though soft is very annoying to work with. Cuddle or smooth minky is much more high quality and is easier to sew. It embroiders way more smoothly too.

adamlhumphreys In reply to Oback-Barama [2012-08-26 21:35:55 +0000 UTC]

I agree about Pinkie’s mane for sure. Hopefully the next pattern iteration will take care of that.

Ah, it does embroider better then huh? That’s good to know! It looks and feels like it’d be easier to work with, I just can't find but two smooth solid colors in stores. Maybe if I sell a few I’ll be able to afford Minky because I know more colors are available also. Where’s the best place to buy Minky?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Oback-Barama In reply to adamlhumphreys [2012-08-26 23:06:06 +0000 UTC]

Well the best place to buy it is fabric.com Usually ships pretty quick, it's very soft and if your order $30+ shipping is free On that website the type of minky you want is Minky Cuddle 3, it's the kind WhiteDove uses.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

adamlhumphreys In reply to Oback-Barama [2012-08-27 01:14:10 +0000 UTC]

Well, if I place an oder at all, it’d definitely be over $30, so awesome! I’m surprised how far my yard of pink has gone. I’ll be able to get three Pinkies out of it!

I thought fabric.com would be the place, less expensive too! I didn’t know what WhiteDove used, but I knew used the Cuddle 3 stuff. Thank you very much!

Oback-Barama In reply to adamlhumphreys [2012-08-27 01:22:22 +0000 UTC]

Yup I use it all the time, also if ou ever want to make a Lyra, the color for her is called Tiffany, and Electric Blue is kinda more of a navy. And would probably work for a Luna. Baby Blue for RD, and Fuschia for Pinkie Pie mane and Scootaloo manes. Snow White is just regular white, so uh yeah.

adamlhumphreys In reply to Oback-Barama [2012-08-27 03:05:10 +0000 UTC]

Much appreciated! Because I’m not sure how accurate the online swatches are in relation to one another or reality. (Joann’s site is actually pretty accurate with it’s ultra cuddle, but there’s a lime green that they don’t have listed).

Looking awesome! The back of Pinkie's mane needs some work, but the front looks good from here And the eyes are looking good too!

Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap, holy crap! Spear's looking SO FREAKING AMAZING!

I can not tell you how excited I am to see her finished and cuddle her all to pieces!

Oh, and the other ponies look good too, though I think the back side of Pinkie's mane should be more...Haha "stapled down" is the first thing that comes to mind. I'm sure you can figure out what that's supposed to mean.

Anyway, plushes looking good. I can imagine you're going to get a heapload of business for these things once you decide to start selling.

adamlhumphreys In reply to Drewdini [2012-08-26 19:59:22 +0000 UTC]

Heheh, good! Just a few more hours hours of work to go.

Yeah, I agree about Pinkie’s mane. I think it’ll look better after adjusting the pattern a bit – should look more flush then.

Yup, well, as soon as Bon-Bon is done and I've made some pattern adjustments, her and Pinkie will finally be on eBay.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Drewdini In reply to adamlhumphreys [2012-08-26 21:01:07 +0000 UTC]

Awesome.

Let me know when all that goes down.

You know, these custom plushes have a reputation for being sold in the high-hundreds of dollars? I once bid on a Rainbow Dash plush that sold for upwards of $450. Think the bid started at $75, if I remember. Bronies will pay. So good luck with that. You've definitely got some quality plushes (or at least they look quality, s'far as I know); now alls you gotta do is get the word out.

I'll help with that when I get Spear.

adamlhumphreys In reply to Drewdini [2012-08-26 21:23:22 +0000 UTC]

Will do. And yeah, if I could sell one for $450, that would certainly be a little higher than $16/hr, (excluding materials). Much appreciated!
