Hey there!
I found this design recently, and it really got my attention, that's why I'm writing this. Despite this is my first critique, trust me, I know a thing or two about Star Trek, with a few exceptions I can say that I saw all existing movies and episodes.
All right then, let us begin!
I am aware that this is a comission for DonMeiklejohn, but let me say something about the design first ... Impressive! It's really catchy. It says: Hey! Look at me! Eye candy for any Star Trek fan. I am pleased to see the classic elements of the style, and that it follows the rule of the nacelle placement (people tend to mess this up).
Clearly, this is a warship, a bigger brother for the Defiant class, so I assume it has the same role in combat: escort, cover for the bigger ships and hunting down priority targets. The name also has a militant flavour: USS Hammer, I like it, I think it fits. Looking at the ship's hull and engines, well, she must be hella fast and quick in battle, which is a great advantage at dodging incoming fire.
However, I think this ship is designed for battles that are already won. Let me explain: rotating warp engines? Cool idea! But such a complex and fine machinery is likely to malfunction after a few direct hits, and I don't know how can she fight at warp speed, if her weapons are mounted on the inside of the whole rotating "wing". Furthermore, I think the ship lacks the firepower to take on bigger targets. I'd love to see some kind of "superweapon" on the ship's nose, it feels empty between the two pillars.
About the image: first of all I love big artworks, fullHD or bigger, so I was a bit disappointed about it's resolution. But the thing that really bugs me is the texture of the hull. It looks ... flat. I'd love to see more details on the armor, some device, apparatus or anything that makes it look less homogeneous. Since she is a warship, you could have made her look like she just came from battle. A burn mark here, a little hull breach there, nothing too serious, just enough to let everyone know: she just kicked another ship's ass!
Two more minor things to end with: personally, you could have used sharper edges, and you should have kept the protective bars on the bussard collectors from the original desing.

I saw the sketches for this a couple years back and loved it. Glad to see that someone did justice to the design. A few questions:
What 3D software did you use?
Is it possible to get orthos or views from other angles?
Who do I have to maim/kill to get a copy of this beauty?

Oh and also, it seems to be missing the forward-facing deflector dish that every Trek starship bigger than a shuttle seems to have.

There's a new Star Trek RPG comming out #StarTrekAdventures from Modiphius GB and I took the liberty and used this design for my players ship-design. Calling it the Hammer-Class.Β
I sure hope you won't mind me using this design for a private Session, I do twitter about it sometimes but I also try to include sources. (I am not infalable so I might have forgotten already once or twice)
