Alrighty, so I have this rifle a long time ago and had long since sold it off and I have been looking back at my older comments on firearms like this and realized how.... "Immature" some of my artist's comments were, so here is a new artist's comments with actual info and professional opinions and the like. = )

Where to start.....

Maybe I should start with the company that pieced this rifle together and sent it out. The company Century Arms is well known for taking military surplus guns and either selling them as they are or doing modifications such as recalibering (Such as with a lot of MAS 36s that were recalibered from 7.5 French to 7.62x51 NATO) and also taking gun kits or pieces of a same type of gun and slapping them all together. This often comes out with mixed results at best.

I slam the company a lot for their modifications to many historical firearms and how they lazily slap together random parts until they look like a gun and than ship them out, but to be fair. They aren't the worst company in history and they are one of the few companies they deal for the most part in military surplus. Something that is rare in many other companies. It's just that you have to know exactly what your dealing with when you see one of their guns on the shelf or stand in a firearms store or a pawn shop. Field stripping and closely looking over the firearm in person is a must!

Even than though, it's the roll of the dice on whether the CA gun you are getting will atleast work or will immediately suffer failures or damages.

Lucky the FAL I bought a long time ago worked without flaws. I'm thankful for that.

Anyway a little history on the rifle. Most Americans tend to match the Russian AKM against the US M-16, but in my opinion. The FN FAL deserves that spot, the FN FAL was the true blue (pardon the pun) challenger to the iconic weapon of the Soviet Union and Communist forces everywhere. Unlike the M-16 which never really made it out of it's own country as a frontline weapon of choice besides a few nations like Australia (Which didn't last long before it was kicked out for the AUG and was NEVER popular with Aussie troops in Vietnam due to it being a piece of garbage), Israel (surprisingly, though now being replaced by the Tavor TAR-21) and Canada or the M-14 which didn't really become issued to anyone but the US military at all. The FN FAL served well over 90 Nations, many of them NATO or NATO-allied nations. Giving it the fitting title "The Right Arm of the Free World."

The FN FAL was made by FNH (Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal = National Factory of Herstal) which is a company famous for it's designs such as the Browning Hi-Power, the FN P90, The FN Seven-Five and the SCAR Light and Heavy rifles. It also has produced the Browning M2 .50 Caliber Machinegun since the 1930s.

It is in my opinion one of the best firearms companies that has even existed. = )

Anyway, The few times I used this particular FAL rifle I will confess I didn't enjoy it too much, The rear sight was extremely tiny and the trigger pull was ridiculously heavy compared to rifles like the M14. I believe this is because of whatever Century Arms did to make the gun sale legally in the USA or because they decided to add their own personal opinion touches to the rifle. = P

I can't really say anything too nasty about the rifle though, it worked and I did score some hits with the rifle which tells me that it could be accurate if you could deal with it's heavy trigger, but otherwise. It is what it is, i'm just grateful it went BANG instead of a sickening metallic snap so for the most part, I did roll the dice well when I bought this gun. = P

Like I said though, sold it about a year ago I believe.

Anyway, hope this all helps and your enjoyed reading this. = )

You're quite welcome! I guess I'll have to be happy with getting that Colt HBAR MT6601 I'm saving for until I leave this stupid state. All for the best, they're going to be introducing a rain tax, and I don't want to have to pay their taxes so I'll be moving south towards freedom. I don't know why, but this FAL looks to be a bit old, despite how clean it is. Could you tell me what year this one was made?

It's a Century Arms rifle, so it's not very old. I won't have this for too long. I'm planning on selling it soon.

That sorta does look like the Aussie L2A1 but I honestly can't tell.

I gotta get mine out of the pawn shop (getting it out next month, booyah!) Mine's a DSA StG58 style FAL. Personally I'm thinking about taking the plastic furniture off and getting the wood replacements. I'm just a traditionalist like that.

Oh man, I long forgot to update the Artist's comment on this thing. Unfortunately, i'm planning on selling this and taking this Devi photo off eventually....

I'm not sure what it is. A lot of parts come to Century Arms and they simply put it together and ship it out. DX

That's right.... Century Arms. >_>

Here's how it went, I always wanted one of those DSA or Imbel FALs, but I couldn't find the IMBEL ones and the DSA ones were a bit expensive for such a bunch of battle rifles based on something that most Americans don't even buy often (or so I thought) so instead. I went the cheap route and had a pawn shop order a cheaper FAL for me to play with....

I NEVER knew it was going to come from Century Arms though. DX

Anyway, yeah. Now that I got some money and maybe will get more from selling this FAL, i'm going to try to snag one of the Para-FN FALs with the 18' Barrels.

I hope the sights and trigger are better on it than the Century Arms one., The hind sights (A piece of metal with a TEENY TINY HOLE in the middle of it) are troublesome to aim with and the trigger is too stiff for my tastes.

The M14, AMD-65 and a G3 copycat I fondled had far better and responsive triggers. DX

IVG-105 In reply to ACR-N64 [2011-07-14 05:56:33 +0000 UTC]

Ugh, Century, you know I came REAL CLOSE to getting a 600$ CETME but after I held that thing, no, just, no. Never, no. I'm not getting a Century built ANYTHING. They are the monkeys with hammers after all and the CETME is what got them that name.

Held that DSA and I was all "Damn, I gotta have this." Now all I need is 12 magazines and a BAR magazine belt, lot of fun there. I've seen an Imbel in the same pawn shop I got my DSA from recently, they look like beauties, wood furniture and all.

After this FAL I'm done with rifles for a while. The last one I've decided on is a Colt LE6920. After that it's getting the accessories for it, finishing the conversion of my M1A1 Carbine to its WWII configuration, and scoping my Gew98, Kar98k, and vz 24.

From what you tell me on the sights it sounds like you have an HK style rear sight. I'm eh on them after looking through them on an MP5. Thankfully my DSA's a metric style and comes with a bipod and carry handle. They're worth it. The StG58 is 1200 stock brand new according to their website. Worth about as much as the LE6920 at 1295.

I been looking for CETME rifles for the longest time, but all of them were done in by Century Arms. Makes me almost wanna cry. T_T

If you ever go back and see an IMBEL rifle. Tell me how it feels, what the sights look like and the trigger pull is.

I never have been an AR fan, I'd rather opt for an M14 or even better. A Beretta BM59. I actually hear they are even better than the M14 and kick even less. It's bait I gotta take up on that! ...... Gonna have to shoot an M14 afterwards though to compare. > = )

Oh! Speak of the Devil..... [link]

I fucking hate those sights, see how TINY that hole is? I almost can't even see through it! DX

IVG-105 In reply to ACR-N64 [2011-07-14 14:25:36 +0000 UTC]

It's also a shame that most AKs are done by Century. I'll just fess up the extra money and get one from Red Jacket if I ever want one.

If it's still there, it was at a very attractive price but seeing as how I have enough rifles to arm a squad I think I'm set XD.

I love the M16/M4 platform. Granted the system does have its issues but I love how it feels to me personally. I've fired the semi-auto M4s as well as the M16A2 (those things on burst, so much fun.) I honestly prefer a Carbine.

If the M14 is anything like the M1 Garand those things will kick. There's also the T20 variant M1s that were modified to select fire and took the magazines from the M1918 BAR.

Oh THAT. That's no HK sight that's just one damn small peep. You should see the sights of the Mausers. The Gew98, Kar98, and vz 24 all work fine for bracketing sights between the hood, wings, or the sides of the sight of the Gew98 (it's the "lang" sight. 400m-2100m.) Without the wings/hood/sight as a point of reference it's hard to use those sights.

I actually think the peep sights from the M1 Garand might be better. That peep also seems as small as the long distance ladder portion of my Enfield's sight.

I got my AMD-65 from T.G. International.

Alrighty, just give me an update if it's still there and you fondled it. ^^

Guess everyone has their preferences.

I handled plenty of rifles that have some kicked, up to 7.mm Mag actually.

Awh, thanks for the info there.

TGI Hm, I remember hearing about them but when I don't know.

Just went in today. That thing's still there and I got a better look at it (wood foregrip, synth rear and pistol grip) they want 1300 for it. Feels like a nice rifle but if you want the right price and brand new DSA's Imbel (this wasn't a DSA) is 995. Personally I still can't wait until next month because I finally get mine out. The pawn shop sells their mags at 20 a pop but I hope they'll give me a quantity discount since I'm going to get 12 (enough to fill a BAR cartridge belt)

Highest caliber I ever shot out of a rifle was 7.92x57mm in the Mausers. Highest period, .50 BMG. Ma Deuce <3. I was hoping to change that rifle caliber to 11mm Mauser but getting black powder rifle ammo is a BITCH so I probably won't get it.

Sounds neat, tell me how well it shoots when you take it out.

Highest out of a rifle I fired is Remington 7mm Mag.

So is it a metric pattern FAL or an Inch pattern FAL? If it is indeed an L1A1 it is an inch pattern one.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ACR-N64 In reply to ShadowDHusky [2011-04-16 03:13:29 +0000 UTC]

It's made by Century Arms, I doubt it's a real L1A1, but they are not the most accurate company when it comes to naming firearms correctly.

ShadowDHusky In reply to ACR-N64 [2011-04-16 14:26:58 +0000 UTC]

Was it imported by Century International Arms or was it assembled by them? I am pretty sure the FAL uses a milled receiver. Century has the metric stripped receiver for 249.87 in my last catalog. They also have a G1 style FAL with carry handle and bipod for 719.87. You can also buy a parts kit for 299.87 (can never have too many spare parts XD ).

I have tried to set up an account with them twice and have given up; they need to fix their website. I guess I could phone order, they sent me a catalog so I know they have my FFL.

Hey, I went to here today [link]

They had no less than 10 Barret Rifles. Several of them around $9200. (they make them within a 30 mile radius of there) They were also selling individual live .50 BMG rounds as well for $7 a pop. XD

I didn't see a FAL there (may have overlooked it, they have to have at least 1,000 guns if not more), but I did see a Cetme, a Mauser, a Yugo M-76, and just about any tactical rifle you could think of (maybe they didn't have an FN2000, but then again maybe I just overlooked it). They also have a buttload of surplus ammunition that is somewhat cheap (not as cheap as online though). And ammo crates and even a wooden mortar box. XD

I see that I saved $100 by purchasing my Walther online instead of through a gun shop (theirs would have been $450 after tax and background check). Glad I got mine when I did. XD

Indeed, the 7.62x51 is a quick, clean kill in a battle. Often one bullet only.

The Australian FAL is identical to the British one

That's a Belgian FAL, The British one was the L1A1 SLR, used by the UK, Australia, New Zeland and Canada.

They had a birdcage flash hider, folding charging handle and wooden stock/furniture
