There is a red string around Kuroo’s neck; it’s been there since his twelfth birthday. The thread fits around his neck perfectly — neither loose nor is chokingly tight. The peculiar thread that appeared spontaneously one day made him curious. Kuroo had pulled and tugged, and even brought a pair of scissors to his neck once, but no matter what he did, this single string remained ever present against his skin.

At first, he worried that it would hinder it his everyday life, but the red thread is thin and barely there. No one else could see it — only him and his future soulmate would — and it never bothered him during matches or practices or any other activities. Sometimes, even the raven himself would forget that it’s even there in the first place.

It distraught him.

He forgot. He forgot. He had the gall to forget about the only thing that could link him and his destined lover.

Kuroo’s mind would wonder; what if his soulmate forgets about him? What if they’ll leave him for some other stranger? It’s not uncommon these days for people to abandon their soulmate for another person. It's a heartbreaking to think that might happen to him.

The more he reflects about this string around his neck, the more it poisons him, the more it eats away his mind. It becomes the only thing he could think about; soon, he found himself spiralling down madness and undeniably obsessed with his soulmate.

“Lift your head for me.” A rough hand moves to the back of your head tugging gently at your hair. You raise your head to the heavens, obeying the man silently. You fear for what is to come if you didn’t.

His lips tug into a dangerous smile when he sees the thin strip of red against the supple skin of your neck, and he brings a calloused finger to trace over it. He's seen it so many times, and yet he can never grow tired of it. Each time he sees it, it looks so perfect — a symbol that you were his.

But it’s a symbol that won’t last long.

“You are mine,” he whispers softly, bringing his lips to your neck. The arm encircling your waist tightens its grip as the hand resting behind your head tugs at your hair, making you bare your neck to him once more. “…You are mine.”

“A-ah…” a small gasp escapes your lips.

“Tetsurou.”

“H-huh?”

He pulls away from your neck by a centimetre, “My name, say it.”

An oddly gentle smile made its way to Kuroo’s lips, staring at you with loving eyes. And seeing that smile, you let yourself believe that he is just an ordinary teen, a normal boy just trying spoiling his lover. Yet, you know very well of the side those mischievous grins and cat-slit eyes hid. The psychotic and dangerous side — you know it all too well.

So, swallowing thickly, your lips trembles with each syllable, “T-Tetsurou…” It is a name that you only uttered when you’re told to, never willingly.

A crooked smile etches his features before he dives back down to your neck. Your hands rest on his chest, gripping handfuls of his shirt as he bites and sucks your neck like a starving beast. “A-Ah! Kuroo, s-stop!” you gasp when you felt teeth sinking into your skin. “Kuroo!”

He ignores your pleas.

“A red string like this one would disappear soon,” he mumbles against your skin, his words slurred slightly as he spoke. “And once it’s gone, you’ll leave me.”

“N-no, I would never—”

“Lies.”

“No, Kuroo, I'm not—”

“Stop it. Just stop lying to me,” Kuroo spits out harshly, his hand moves to your face in a swift action, cradling your cheek, and the other grips your forearm with bone breaking strength. He takes in the view, drinking every aspect of you. Reddening skin, swollen lips, the slight labour of your breaths, the way your hair seem to glow under the dim lighting of the room. But he relishes especially the glimmer of fear in your irises — it excites him in so many, sick ways.

“I don’t want you to leave me.”

Slowly, he brings his face closer, pressing chapped lips against yours in a deceivingly gentle kiss. He pulls away just enough for you to see the malevolent glint in his eyes, and crooked smile upon his lips once more.

“I want to mark you mine.”

He sinks his teeth once more.
