Kazu is an individual of precision. He likes to keep his life neat and on-point, making sure everything is perfectly organized down to the smallest detail. Some people labelled him with OCD, but he prefers to excuse himself, claiming that ‘life’s too short for too much imperfection, so why not fix the things we can fix while we’re alive anyway’. Despite his slight perfectionist side, he’s tolerant enough to turn a blind eye over a thing or two when the given task requires completion in a short amount of time.

Being a person with high interest in art, Kazu holds high aesthetic expectations, hence believes that everything he dished out must be of utter beauty, ultimately pleasing to the eye (and taste buds when it comes to his field of work). However, worry not, he’s not a slow worker who’d spend hours just to seek a perfect spot to place a tuile on top of a dish.

Kazu doesn’t interact much with others outside necessities, merely greeting the people he occasionally passes by and engage in small short conversations when prompted. He doesn’t really have a considerably close ‘friend’, particularly doesn’t mind having one but not bothered enough to search for such relationship.

When he does - in any bizarre incidental and accidental unfortunate event- become anyone’s friend, they’ll have to start getting used to his frequent blunt comments. Kazu will immediately point out the things he sees unfit or just plain wrong, and he won’t exactly sound nice when he does. Obviously, he means no harm, he just likes to get straight to the point. Born in Tokyo, Japan, to a family of accountants and bankers, Kazu had always held a different interest in mind. He’s attracted to the world of arts and was deeply fascinated by the idea of aesthetics. His parents couldn't agree with his idea of taking art and culinary for his college degree after graduating high school. And so, he applied for scholarships to colleges outside Japan, surprisingly receiving good feedbacks from most. A school in the States particularly caught his attention, and he made up his mind to aim for double degree there. His mother was against the idea, however his father agreed to let him try his luck as he was sure that Kazu’s going to end up regretting his decision.
Moving to another country with no relatives and minimal budget, he rent out a free space in a shared apartment close to campus. There he first met Jarvis and Koi, a pair of siblings living far away from their hometown all on their own. At first, Kazu decided to leave the two to themselves and to mind his own business. Ultimately, he ended up being the house cook as he couldn’t stand watching the two live off junk food and microwave meals all the time.

He managed to earn enough money for any extra expenses outside college through regularly participating photography competitions and working night shifts at restaurants nearby, also at the same time gathering as much working experience as he could. He made sure to excel in all his classes throughout the years, and eventually graduated from his photography major with an outstanding final year showcase. And that was left to do was for him to finish up the internship period for his culinary major, and he would’ve successfully gather everything he needed to proudly go back to his parents and finally get their approval.

Anyone in the business of hospitality and service by then would’ve at least heard of the name ‘Aspro Corvus’, the only six star hotel existing which during that time had just reopened and was recruiting new staffs. Kazu was skeptical at first, but he decided to give the hotel a shot for his internship period since if he managed to get in, he’d be able to impress his parents more. He was only aware of the fact that the hotel doesn’t take in interns a while after, but he decided to get an interview booked anyway, hoping he’d be able to appeal to the management board and get an exception.

Regrettably, his proposal was still rejected in the end. The interviewer however, presented him with a signed and handwritten invitation for him to come back to the hotel anytime he’s done with his studies, complimenting him on his dish. Content with the result he got, Kazu left to settle in another restaurant to finish his internship program, easily passing the three months as he soon graduated.

He wasn’t ready to go back to Japan straight after, honestly finding it quite hard to leave his flat since he already considered the siblings as family. Plus, he was still bothered that he’s indirectly rejected by one specific hotel. Once again he decided to apply to work for AC, and was more than delighted that they accepted his application. What he didn’t know was that Jarvis applied for a job at the same place and at the same time too. He didn’t tell Jarvis, but he’s in a way glad that they could end up working at the same hotel though different departments.

The first few days of work went smoothly, though some things did manage to seriously bother him. Kazu couldn’t help but to notice that the staffs working there were all extremely young, even the department heads. Everything was starting to get suspicious but he decided to not point out anything and just went with the flow for the moment. It wasn’t until one night shift that his view on the hotel completely changed.

After that small 'incident', Kazu urged Jarvis to leave the hotel with him for the sake of their safety and for Koi, knowing that the small girl won’t have anyone else to depend on if Jarvis were ever to disappear. They were warned that it might be dangerous for them to leave the hotel, but Kazu knew that staying would be riskier. After resigning, they managed to find other jobs and continue on with their normal lives for a good couple of months before an accident happened.

One day, both of them received a call from their neighbor saying that their apartment was caught on a huge fire, and that Koi was hospitalized after one of the firemen was luckily able to get her out of the building. They rushed to the hospital to find the girl thankfully still alive. However, for the next days they waited, she would stay unconscious. The doctor told them that Koi had fallen to a state of coma due to mental trauma and that they're uncertain of when she'd wake up. A part of Kazu questioned why such thing would suddenly happen, doubting that it's a mere accident. The neighbors said that it might have been a gas leak, but there were also some who said that they saw suspicious people entering and exiting the apartment before the fire set off.

Could this be why they were warned before they left the hotel?

Was it all just a bad coincidence?

Whatever it was, they still needed to find a way to cover Koi's hospital fees and all of their expenses. And if it's true that they were targeted because they once worked for AC, they need to prepare for the worst to come. Frustrated as he was, Kazu could only think of the hotel as a medium to settle everything. They said that the staffs will be trained to prepare for situations like this, and the hotel offers quite a hefty amount of salary right?
Maybe it's time to seek some compensation.

- His other interests aside from photography are chocolate sculpting and pastries… doesn’t necessarily eat them though

- He eats very, very little...but very often
