"I spent ten minutes trying to write something to describe this, but I am at a loss for words."
e.g.:
"Dessert of desert"

That could work

Meh. A picture says a thousand words. A picture with a short description can say so much more. This feels like an entire chapter.

Being there certainly filled a chapter in my life story, a lot more than I would have originally believed possible.

Beautiful in a harsh kind of way.

Yes, I wish you could have seen it in person, it really is remarkable.Β

It looks remarkable. Maybe one day I will take a trip to see it.

I was a little reluctant to go originally, what with the 18 hours of flying and Β such, but it was absolutely worth it, particularly (for me) Masada, the original Alamo. When you look at the amount of effort the Romans committed just to get 900 people, it's really incredible, and to me makes Asterix just that much more credible

You make it sound more and more incredible. Maybe one day when I have the cash to play with, I will take a trip for myself to go see it all.

I have to say, I was reluctant to go at first; the long flight in a cramped aircraft, the language barrier, the occasional missile falling out of the sky, the bad drivers etc, but in the end, it was so much more than I had expected. There is the desert, but there are also green fields, and amazing beaches, you'll want to spend Friday evening to Saturday (the sabbath, where a lot of the country shuts down) in Tel-Aviv, and go spend the day at the beach (we did this twice while I was there). I'm going to write up a journal about the experience, as soon as I get a few moments to breathe

Out of all of that, I am most afraid of the occasional missile falling out of the sky, lol. The green fields and dessert intrigue me the most, Them and the ruins. Stuff like that I can spend all day gawking at. I look forward to the journal write up about that.Β

I wouldn't worry about that so much, thanks to Iron Dome, you're significantly more likely to die in a car crash driving in Orlando or Memphis than from a rocket in Israel. Around 400 rockets were fired last week and not a single casualty in Israel (Israeli retaliatory bombing killed close to 150 Palestinians though, so avoid going into Gaza).

I have to get my in gear and get that journal up

I'll have to keep all that in mind. I don't plan on going to Gaza, ever. Thanks for the link.

My pleasure, and yeah, Gaza is not a fun place to visit

And it probably won't be a fun place for a long time.
